thanks mr. light years.
here are my 1 cent, as they say.
why do mechanics recieve and dispatch ? ( its not an A&P fuction )
why do mechanics at non A&P positions get paid for A&P license (GSE,PLANT MANIT,SEAT SHOP,HYDRO SHOP,ELECTRICAL SHOP,FIBERGLASS SHOP .... )
why do we have mechanics deicing .
why do mechanics get paid for both A&P license when only one is used in their job description; (sheet metal, engine shop, apu shop, etc.etc....
why do planners at overhaul shops get paid the same as mechanics?...
why do we need utility or stores?
why do we have station bumpping rights (SHOULD BE YOU WILL BUMP THE JUNIOR MAN IN THE SYSTEM ,LIKE UNITED AIRLINES)
WHY DO WE ALLOW GSE,SHOP MECHS TO BUMP INTO LINE POSITIONS WHEN THEY HAVE NOT WORK THE AIRCRAFT IN THE LAST 5,10,15,20 OR 25 OR 30 YEARS OR NEVER.
WHY DO MECHANICS THAT CHOOSE TO WORK AS UTILITY OR STORES KEEP ACCUMULATING TIME AS MECHANICS AND ACCUMULATE MECHANIC TIME FOR RETIREMENT (LETS SAY; YOU HIRE IN 1/1200 AS UTILITY PERSON,THERE IS AN OPENING IN GSE IN LGA,PHL ETC.. YOU BID IT; YOU GOT IT. AFTER PROBATION YOU DECIDE TO GO BACK TO CLEANING AIRPLANES,30 YERAS LATER DECIDE TO RETIRE ALL MYOU HAVE TO DO IS BID A MECHANIC POSION TO GET MECHANIC RETIREMNT BENEFITS (FULL BENEFITS) EVEN THOUGH YOU ONLY WORKED AS GSE MECHANIC FOR 3 MONTHS 30 YEARS EARLIER).
SO MUCH WASTE .
AND THE IAM WILL NEGOTIATE PAY CUTS TO KEEP ALL THESE CRAP.
I CAN GO ON AND ON AND ON....

WAHT'S YOUR OPINION?

I WANT UAIR TO EXCELL , BUT ITS NOT THE WAGES,ITS THE WASTE.

You are NOT 100% correct on every point.

The fast answer: They did this stuff when times were good and the company agreed to them. They also had TWO different opportunities to rectify what they felt was waste and did NOTHING, why is THAT?

Maybe because it doesn’t add up to a hill of beans?

MR PITBULL; AMERICAN JOBS HA,HA,HA.
LETS GO TO ALL LCC AND FORCE THEM TO DUPLICATE (UNIONICE/REDUNDANCY) TO GET THE COST ON AN EVEN FIELD.
WHY ISNT THE IAM UNIONICING JETBLUE,AIRTRAN, OR PICKETING SWA FOR MORE AMERICAN JOBS? THINK ABOUT IT!!
if WE DO NOT SHED OFF EXCESSES,WE WILL WORK FOR MINIMUN WAGES AND WE WILL STILL LOOSE MONEY.

A FIREND

The FAA is watching VERY closely because we are UNDERSTAFFED with mechanics, nevertheless you are saying excess, ok.

When the company and union agree on a contract it is about 'total cost'. For example the company would pay you a higher rate per hour if they did not pay for a defined pension plan for you. Anything you do in regards for paying for labor costs money. Some here might ask why pay for vacation for an employee. They are not even working on the job. Besides United Airlines may not be the best example to use. They are in chapter 11 if you did not know.

--Since it appears so many management type employees are using handles (nicknames) on this board to blend in better with the working troops maybe some of the working union stiffs should change their name to something more management sounding and still put up their pro union or pro worker views.

Here's a short answer...

ITS ALL ABOUT KEEPING AMERICAN JOBS ALIVE!!!!!!
Isn't that just like let's win the battle and who cares who wins the war?
Pit looks like a ghost town when compared to it's former self, and you want more heads to roll? At the same time management is still staffed like it was when we had people walking on top of each other. We now have a very lope sided management union personnel ratio. Why isn't anyone complaining about that, why is ALWAYS labor and NEVER management?

YES. Poindexter the Professor, that’s it!

I know for a fact in CLT there are half as many managers as there use to be prior to the cutbacks. Some of them are working 12 hour days to make it work for the operation.
As for keeping heads on the payroll wouldn't it be far wiser to keep thousands working that to hang on to a few hundred and ensure thousands are unemployed?

Umech why do you post wrong information?

from the IAM Mechanic and related Contract:
Receipt and Dispatch.
Article 2, B and Article 4, N of the Basic Agreement and other articles and
provisions related to receipt and dispatch functions and ancillary duties
associated with receipt and dispatch (except air starts) will be amended to
provide that these functions may be performed by employees not covered
under the Mechanical and Related Personnel Agreement except as follows:
• Mechanics will continue to perform the dispatch function of operating
the pushback vehicle in BOS, DCA, LGA, PIT, CLT and PHL.
During
deicing events, irregular operations or when mechanics are not available
due to performing non-dispatch mechanic duties on other aircraft, any
other IAM represented employee may perform the dispatch function.
Note: It is not the intent of the parties to utilize this provision in order to
modify hangar staffing procedures or advance planning for deicing.

GSE does not get A&P license pay unless they were aircraft mechanics who were bumped into GSE.

Mechanics only deice at 18 out of 89 mainline stations.

Utility and stores provide a needed function.

I will not go further because obviously it seems Jerry Glass has been posting.

Why are we hiring more foreman when we are losing regular workers?

Let me be the first in line to sacrifice myself for the D&D God.

Sorry Mr Poindexter, that's a no go. <_<

Hang onto the past dude. If nothing else it'll make for some good memories when you look back on it.

PS...Welcome to the new millenium.

I do not know where you work but in CLT line mtc there are more managers and foreman and 40 less utility and about 60 less mechanics.

On day shift you have a line maintenance first shift manager, a maintenance manager, the Regional Director, 4 foreman for approximatley 25 mechanics, plus 6 lead mechanics.
One utility foreman for about 40 or so Utility.

Second shift you have one maintenance manager, 4 foreman for about 25 mechanics plus 6 lead mechanics.
One utility foreman for about 50 or so Utility plus a rotator utility foreman ( a new position just added)... Hmm no extra utility jobs added but yet a new foreman position was created?

Third shift you have one manager and 4 or 5 foreman for about 67 mechanics, one utility foreman for 25 utility.

Seems we lost 100 jobs from CLT line, but we the management headcount was increased.

So MrAeroman, apparently you are not a line mechanic because you would know these facts.
