I was wondering how Frontier's new route LAX MSP was doing. Have heard that loads have been relatively low for them since NWA is now offering eight daily non stops and a very competitive product. Maybe it would be better if F9 discontinued the LAX MSP route while NWA discontinued the LAX DEN route and they both could go back to making money. One thing for certain though, NWA wll not roll over and play dead on one of most profitable routes.

cheers

Hey Bigsky, I see you're stirring the pot a little tonight.

Just checked loads LAX-MSP. Running pretty strong, however, they should be since they are just flying their normal passenger loads between the two cities without the stop in DEN. I think the DEN-MSP flights are now half Jet Express and half Main Line.

Keep in mind F-9 is not targeting NWA in MSP, they are merely growing a second hub or "focus city" in LAX that happens to serve MSP. But like the DC-10 guy said, we'll see.

See ya at the Snow Creek.

I didn't know that NW had started LAX-DEN service in response to Frontier. A bit of a surprise since it is rather doubtful that they will make any profits and didn't NW get into trouble with the DOT (granted, during the pro-startup airline Clinton administation) for starting RNO-SEA flights right after Reno Air started RNO-MSP service?

FWIW:

Loads for tomorrow....

NW 959 DEN-LAX booked to 37/148

NW 961 DEN-LAX booked to 31/148

Obviously lots of connectivity between the 2 cities for NW.

LAX DEN. Not the greatest route so far for NW. Loads look better next week however. Also was walking by the F9 gate in MSP a few days ago and I saw an F9 aircraft in the initial boarding process with only a hand full of people waiting to board. Point is both airlines should go back and fly routes that turn a profit.
My guess is that frontier will pull off the route(LAX MSP) sometime in September of this year, which is coincidentally when hunting season begins.

Well, NW has shown in the past they are willing to compete vigourously to defend their monopoly hubs. I recall in the '90s when Reno Air added 2 roundtrips RNO-MSP that NW announced within days a new RNO minihub, overlapping Reno Air's entire system.

Somehow, Reno stopped this through the courts, I think, but the message from NW was clear.

But I think Frontier may stick to LAX-MSP (and MCI and STL). They have more airplanes coming than their facilities can support... And LAX is a huge travel market... Might as well get in now before all the other new LCC's become entrenched (i.e. JBLU, AWA, and LUV is already entrentched).

We have a 75+ load factor on the regular LAX to DEN and DEN to MSP flights. This is a waste of time, fuel, and money. Hopefully we will leave that market after this summer travel season is over. There are better places to fly than to LAX or MSP. But never know maybe we'll fly MSP to Mexico, those are always FULL flights

Wouldn't count on F9 flying to any place out of Minneapolis except for DEN.
