One time. Literally one time (back in the 80's). The man was very sociable, very well liked, and made a pretty decent living. He worked on the subway platforms. He was the kind of guy that everyone who frequented the area knew his name.

Despite the accusations/rumors I have never left Tulsa I have lived in a lot of places.
Illinois, Missouri, Alabama, Georgia, and Arizona.
I liked Alabama the best. I lived in Huntsville. NASA has a large presence there so there are a lot of educated people there. You have heard of rocket scientist..... these guys were literally rocket scientist.
I liked Atlanta the least. I have said it since I lived there and will probably say it to the day I die, the only good thing that ever came out of Georgia is Kim Basinger.
I lived in Arizona the least amount of time. However it was an odd situation because we were "living" in a luxury hotel for months on end. I didn't really have a proper home. I guess I did not get the real experience of living in Arizona because the hotel was sort of in the middle of nowhere so it was very isolated and since we were surrounded by desert there was really no place to go. I used to think how odd it was that we were at a hotel with 2 giant pools in the middle of a desert.
To answer your question it's been a while.
If I could live absolutely anywhere though I would live in Astoria Oregon.

I considered moving to Portland to get closer to that destination (not that I really want to live in Portland but sometimes you gotta sacrifice).
I had an engineer impressed with my skill set say he would make a way for me if I wanted to move down there but I declined because my wife and I both have really good jobs in Tulsa.
Unfortunately Astoria is just sort of a sleepy little town and they have little use for computer network specialist. I have actually called temp agencies there and local businesses trying to find work with no success. At any rate my wife would have to give up a good paying job and I would have to take a hell of a pay cut. Not a very practical choice. Maybe after I retire.
You are right that I would be a bit out of place being a conservative in a liberal area but there is a lot that attracts me to the town. Maybe I can "corrupt" a few of them

Well you'd have ZERO Tornadoes, the Ocean, Great seafood etc, just for starters.
