Turning Point

EMAIL RESONSE FROM BRUCE LAKEFIELD AND JERRY GLASS.

Outstanding. I may not agree on every line but you are right on. If half our
people thought like you and I think they do we will get it right. The sense of
individual went away when it was realized that we could actually fail. One last
union group to work through. And if we could just get steady state on fares so
we could break even this year we could start some of the more aggressive
customer services you mentioned

[BRUCE]

thank you very much for forwarding the email. Clearly, you took much time
to put your thoughts on paper and for that I am very appreciative. Your
dedication and love for the airline also come throgh loud and clear.

Yes, this management team and prior ones have made mistakes. We are also
operating in the most difficult environment in the history of the airline
industry. But one thing you got right--the customer pays our salaries and all of
us mustto remember that.

There will be an airline industry with or without us. We want it to be with US
Airways.

Thanks again.

Hey Wheels,

Thanks alot. I'm just happy you got a response. Maybe there IS hope. I just can't tell you how much I appreciate what you did. I was starting to get down after a few people started the doom and gloom. Let's hope Bruce and Jerry actually listen.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but they can agree to their hearts' content. If they don't have the skill set necessary to implement it, it remains what it is, a set of good ideas.

I hear ya, Michael. ;)

Food for thought...
Airline wage cuts alone aren't saving the industry

The gist is that wage cuts, while helpful, aren't enough to keep legacy airlines afloat. In particular, AS is noted as an airline that has done well by focusing on operational efficiency.

US hasn't done that. Now, there's no time left to do it. The concessions would have been fine if they were used as a means of buying time to fix the operational inefficiencies. Instead, they were used as "solutions" to effective competition.

Sounds like he is setting you up for the next round of wage concessions with the mention of fares assuming there is an airline left.

ANOTHER EMAIL RESPONSE FROM JERRY GLASS

I can assure you that Bruce and I have high on our priority list fixing
the morale and management problems. We need to get the IAM offers ratified and
then we can focus our attention on getting the right business plan in place and
rebuilding the company. It will be a long, slow climb back to the top, but we
will get there.
