Has it really been nine years since that proud name went into airline history. Glad the spirit lives on. Don't get me wrong, AA is a truly fine company and among the industry's best. But I daresay that even C R Smith would tip his hat to TWA colorful and proud heritage.

So even if you are dyed in the wool Astroliner type, join me in raising a glass to TWA and its people.

I remember thinking at the time AA was making a huge blunder dismantling the TWA name which had more prestige and global recognition. Perhaps management at the time believed TWA's weak capital position, poor labor relations, and other troubles were good reasons to have the AA brand become its successor. For example, SBC purchased AT&T in 2006-2007 and kept the AT&T name as they realized the name was a valuable asset. It's interesting that much of the United livery is the former Continental minus the name.

It is a shame that TWA had to deal with the 'devil" Carl Ichan. He gutted the really valuable assets of TWA and pocketed the money for himself. Donald Trump tried the same thing with AA in 1989 but found out that Bob Crandall had friends in Texas with big money who bought more stock than Trump to keep him from out of the BOD. Frank Lorenzo gutted Eastern and the original CAL and walked away with a lot of the employees retirement.By the time AA purchased TWA there wasn't much left except some routes and gates at STL and MCIE. What is left of that today?

I often wonder how different the whole TWA transaction would have evolve had 911 not happened. But I guess the whole world would be different too. But I can defenetly raise a glass in honor of the TWA heritage. Too bad that AA did not keep T5@JFK and do our operations from a national landmark. Yes the spirit of TWA, just like Pan Am and Eastern will live forever.

Sure I'll raise a glass to them........................... when they raise a glass to the native AAers!

Yikes!! Here we go again. Let the mudslinging begin.

Either group cannot be painted with one broad brushstroke.

When is this nonsense going to end. We are one. There should no longer be
any talk about us vs them. We are just one American airlines.
I for one will no longer debate this issue any more.

I agree. I'm also so tired of the constant little jabs to the side, underhanded remarks and mudslinging about what basically now is ancient history. And it comes from both sides. At this time, especially, when all of our recalled flight attendants that are returning are former TWA'ers do we need to respect each others' past, current and future situation. I salute the TWA workforce and their glorious past. But now fast forward to 2010 and we should all be one unified AA workforce respectful of each other.

Look at your automobile. The Windshield [AA] is a LOT LARGER than the rear view mirror [TWA] because the driver needs to to be more aware of what's coming ahead that what's already behind him/her.
