With the carriers that have already reported posting sobering 1st Q results, how bad will it be for US? I'll go out on a limb here and say "be afraid, be very afraid".

be what!!! lol, what about deltas 6.3billion dollar loss? how long till the bankrupt again?

With Delta's mega loss of 6.39 billion dollars (yes...for one quarter!!), I'm certain those employees are concerned. It's interesting what has happened to Delta since the merger with US was blown off, with promises to Delta Investors that are not ringing true.

US 1st QTR loss will be made public tomorrow morning and the quarterly state of the Airline meeting will be held in Tempe with a webcast on the employee websites. Everyone should listen to this, you are also able to send in questions that may be asked during the meeting. Look for a 1st Quarter loss, but nothing like what we are seeing of the others.

It's a serious time right now and the best we can all do is treat our customer right.

We had some pretty descent fuel hedges and finally got our ops together so I'm hoping it won't be too bad. Of course, that is a relative term. I will guess a $100 million dollar loss.

First Call consensus is for about a $220 million loss ex-special items ($2.37/share).

Just to clarify, it was $274 million or a loss of $.69/share excluding special items, but yes nonetheless, much worse than the $.55/share loss predicted by most analysts.

Last time I posted here I was pretty well intoxicated on the fermented Merlot grapes of Napa Valley so I won't blame anyone for not taking me seriously on this post...

But I'm all good now... Drinking coffee and watching my love Erin Burnett on CNBC. What a money honey.

For those with a brokerage account, you may want to watch the stock tomorrow. If there is a drastic drop in share price, buy at the end of the day after 3pm. Sell in the morning (Friday) on a bounce before 10am or 10:30am. This airline may be reluctant to pay you a decent wage so you may as well profit by opportunistic trading of the stock. My money is tied up in other stocks and my cash account is depleted, so I won't be participating but I will watch it closely.

Legal disclaimer: These opinions are my own. I am not a professional and cannot be responsible for any financial losses. Do your own due diligence.

I think the quarterly result depends on who is going to be in the drivers seat in the up comming merger, If we are to acquire someone then I believe it will be a smaller amount (less than 100 mil.) if we are to be acquired then look out the skies the limit (like Delta). I think these quarterly results (from a industry perspective) are for consolidation posturing only.-Ed 😉

Like EVERY OTHER AIRLINE employee should be.

It's interesting what has happened to Delta since the merger with US was blown off,

We earned a handsome profit last year (LIKE EVERY OTHER AIRLINE)

with promises to Delta Investors that are not ringing true.

What? That we're losing money because of high fuel prices?
(LIKE EVERY OTHER AIRLINE)

a LOSS is still a LOSS. 😉

When will that plan be instituted? You haven't treated customers right for almost 3 years now...

Wow, there are many things front line people can do to improve the customers' experience on U flights even if it doesn't come from the top.
There is much anxiety for everyone right now and a little basic human kindness can improve 98% of passengers negative feelings. The other 2% are just unhappy people anyway. I commute quite a ways and I can tell you that we have many wonderful, interesting and loyal passengers.

This isn't just a loss (6.4 billion), it's a hermorrage....especially given Delta has recently emerged from bankruptcy, it is a reflection of how little they did to sustain themselves through this downtime. Hopefully the NW merger will work out very well for both.

The actual loss was $274 million, the $6.4 billion includes a non-cash $6.1 billion write down:

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Delta Air Lines and Northwest reported dramatically wider first-quarter losses on Wednesday due to billons of dollars in noncash write downs to reflect a decline in their market capitalization and the sky-high cost of fuel.
For the past quarter, Atlanta-based Delta reported a loss of $6.39 billion, or $16.15 a share, compared to a loss of $130 million in the same period last year. Total operating revenue rose to $4.77 billion from $4.24 billion.
Excluding about $6.1 billion in one-time charges, Delta said it lost $274 million, or 69 cents a share, missing analysts' mean estimate of a loss of 50 cents a share, according to data provided by FactSet Research.
