3% pay increase for all non contract employees

WOW...!!!

Kev3188/yankeestu/Luke Sky Walker/Come fly with me,

You Cats put a hurtin' on ol' GSEMAN's ..question to ME !! (saved me from a Shet load of typing)

I'm still waiting for you to sell me on why being non-union is the way to go...

Well, there's ~3000 people at NWA alone that would disagree with you on that one.

Nevertheless, one last time, here's what we at NWA enjoy vis a vis our DL counterparts:

* 6 weeks vacation vs. 4

* Fixed medical costs. If there's an increase, there is a set amount and time frame.

* 40 locations vs. 15 (I'm talking for the ramp, since that's what's most relevant to me)

* No cap on sick leave vs 7 days PPT at DL.

* No cap on OJI time

* Definitive rules on equal distribution of overtime

* Definitive caps on the amount of PT'ers in any given station

* Definitive language on layoff/displacement rights.

That's just a few out of many, and I only picked things that both carriers have in common. I didn't even touch on things that DL doesn't have such as grievance procedures, pension, etc.

Actually, I'll be taking a pay cut, since your ALA pay is less than what our Lead pay is.

For everyone else, the benefits I listed above *FAR* outweigh the "massive" .18 cents/hr. that people would get.

Those extra 2 weeks? My union got me those.

Those 38 cities-besides DTW & MSP-where I can work (including the one I'm currently in, BTW)? My union got me those.

Unlimited sick/OJI time? yep, you guessed it. All negotiated by my union on my behalf.

Thats great..............for you, now tell me how the mechanics feel ! Didn't they have a union backing them?

"I didn't even touch on things that DL doesn't have such as grievance procedures, pension, etc."

Non-pilot DL employees still have pension.

Thats great..............for you,

...Not just for me...For all of us at NWA...

I don't speak for AMT's, 'cause I'm not one. You'll have to wait for one of them to chime in.

You asked me to "sell you" on why I believe being unionized is the way to go considering who runs both our companies, and I did.

Great point. The AMFA got taken to school by the very people running our new Delta. Doug was but one player in the replacement of the striking AMFA techs. The rest are all taking up residence in Hot-Lanta as we speak or have been there for some time (Richy-Rich).

They, Doug and Rich, plotted and planned how to take on the Techs and they beat them with money. It took plenty of it to support the f*cking scabs in their hideaways, waiting to steal the livelihoods of hundreds of men and women. It took plenty of it to cook the books into bankruptcy and hire law firm after law firm to take money away from the employees and line their pockets with it.

Like they had a choice to strike. The management at NWA, and now DAL, made the choice for them. Most were to loose their jobs and the rest would loose their ass in pay. Management was going after them to make an example and set the stage for the big fight in BK (ALPA, 40% cut in pay).

The very same people that you now propose we need zero protection from are the ones responsible for the destruction of thousands of careers. I can't speak for the Techs but I am not alone in saying that I will never trust Rich, Doug or any of the others running this bastard ass merger. I will only be happy when the sign on the wall reads,

"Open for business,
Under new management".

that's the same union I used to try to push, now I'm not so sure.

Not so sure? They flat sold out their members, how can you be unsure? I wonder how the AMFA reps bank account looked after that whole fiasco.

You need to take your blinders off ! I am not "GIDDY" at all about the state of affairs going on in this country, but the facts are plain to see, everyday you read a newspaper or look online, which you apparentely you "DON'T DO"!

And as far as I know, everyone "WITH" or without a union has had to give back, and yes even the pilots union has had to give back !

No one likes the situation the airline or any other industry is in right now, my problem is what I've stated :

Even with union representation, people have taken pay and benefit cuts and yes sadly, even lost jobs !

So when people come in here, thumpimg their chest and spouting" Vote Union Now" or else, I say or else what ! I'll take cuts or possibly lose my job? Seems to me that can happen to anyone backed or unbacked by a union !

Oh, and yes I do love Delta and with people like you, it just pushes me futher away from being pro-union...............good job at promoting your beliefs ![/quote

You can vote or not vote for whomever you freeking want to, but you have NO idea what pandoras box your opening with these exec's.

We'll never really know if that happened. I'm sure it could have. I'll bet many beleive that is how it came out. It all comes down to whom we choose to repesent us, or in the case of DL mechanics, whom we follow like a herd of sheep or lemmings.

From where I sit I think AMFA totally screwed up at NW. Part of AMFA's structure is it's biggest weakness. All AMFA contracts are locally negotiated. The national office doesn't do much. To the average Joe this is a good sell. It is a union of your peers. There is no Jimmy Hoffa National telling you local guys what we think is best for"you".

I really think NW saw this as a bunch of chumps way out of their league. They played hardball while AMFA was playing slow pitch softball. If The NW mechanics had had the right people in place to negotiate thier contract it might have played out different. IMHO AMFA waited way too long to strike. At the first offer of lay off 50% of the workforce so we can outsource to overseas, AMFA shold have flipped them off and walked out at the insult of the offer. All the other union workgroups at NW should have done the same. Yes It could have resulted in Chapter 11 for NW. So what. they ended up there anyways.

It all comes down to standing up for the greater good. That is was a union is really about. In this fight AMFA was only standing up for the status quo. They were not asking for a huge raise or a seat on the board. All they wanted was to keep the jobs in house at the current wage. The other unions at NW were unwilling to back them. ALPA was too self absorbed to come to the aid of the mechanics. Simple if the airplane is released by a scab, don't fly it. Don't cross the picket line. If you do your job is next.

Delta does have a grievence procedure. It's called Tech-Op's Resolution and let me tell you, I've seen the same guy walked out the gate for the same thing............TWICE...........and kept his job both times. He should have been canned. Hell, makes me think we do have a union !
