Does anyone know what they 757 reconfiguration has been postponed INDEFINITELY? They have been pushing it back a week or so at a time, but today the briefing said it was going on hold with no time frame for implementation. Clues or guesses?

$500 in F to Vegas? Maybe they figure they can sell 'em at those rates.....

Maybe this is a sign of bigger changes to come. If U has a more rational fare structure perhaps the airline can actually sell some of these seats. Perhaps I would even buy some of them. As it stands now, I definitely look for the upgrades but would never consider paying the enormous differential to ride in F. If there is a reasonable fare premium for riding up front, perhaps my purchasing pattern will change. Could someone in CCY be making this argument? If so, those seats that were due to be removed would more likely be seen as generating more revenue - rather than taking away revenue. Isn't that the way it was supposed to be when those seats were installed in the first place?

In my opinion, the company delayed the reconfiguration to save the expense and increase liquidity.

During the winter months there is less traffic, therefore, it may make sense to do the work later.

Chip,

I thought (not having been on a domestic flight on US in about two months) that the 757s were being used on runs to LAS and Florida. If that's the case, one would think they would want to do the reconfig now as one would think that winter would actually be the busier season to those places.

You are correct Clue. Florida and LAS is where they fly and more seats would make sense as soon as possible.

This management cannot decide what do to or when to do it. They are inept. Song reconfigured the Delta 757's to compete. We don't know what we want to do with ours. In fact, one of our brainstorm managers recently stated that the 757 was THE most uneconomical jet we fly. Guess that's why Song uses theirs to compete and win vs. JetBlue head to head with their RECONFIGURED 757's.

Yet another example of the fine management Siegel is laying on this company. He needs to be gone. Chip, let me try it again: Do you think Siegel should resign or be terminated? Or are you satisfied with his management of this company?

That's actually an interesting thought. Would a family traveling on the cheap pay $500 each to fly F class to Vegas for a week of vacation. Probably not.

Would six guys flying from RDU to Vegas for one lucky guy's bachelor party weekend pay $500 each to fly F class. Quite possible.

This is probably a test to see what demand there really is out there for premium cabin travel to leisure destinations.

I agree, but at current service levels it's no longer a "premium" cabin.

Therein lies part of the problem.

My best to all--it's gonna get worse before it gets better.

Remember......

Brilliant deduction Chip...you will fit in at CCY nicely some day.

The time to accomplish tasks of this nature is when the demand for equipment is less....nothing is hindered and everyones served unless something un-forecasted takes place?

The lean/slow times are the time to make hay on extensive modifications

I thought we were going to use the aircraft on High Demand Leisure Markets with low Yield. Now my question, since we all thought we would have these reconfig'd 75's running around Florida and Vegas, how does this effect all the work that has already been done? Isn't this a good example of wasting money? Yield Management, Marketing, etc. have already worked countless hours routing these aircraft in to high density leisure markets. Also some of these 75's are booked well over 200 pax in coach since we thought we would have 178 seats. The right hand needs to talk to the left hand. STOP THE WASTE OF MONEY NOW, DAVE ! ! !

.....just maybe someone realizes that it would be better to concentrate on yhe "S" checks ..... but that would be reasonable ... not likely for US management ...

Nice theories everyone, but the reason for the delay is to maintain the active fleet count number and block hours. With the "storing" of 2, soon to be 3-4-5 A319 airplanes due to the S checks, they are stopping all non-essential things such as the re-configuration and painting airplanes until the S check issue is resovled and the airplanes returned to service.

Mark -
Sadly, you're probably right.

Mark:

I haven't looked into this, but you're probably right.
