What's new

767 C.I.P. MOD

AA did have significant market research into the design of the seats.

Yes, but zero actual mechanic input. Maybe some input from a supervisor who has never touched a wrench but nothing from those who will install and maintain them.

Actually this 3 month "test period" is the time for the Mechanics to put in their input on the installation and maintenance of the seats. This is a brand new seat, never been used by any airline. It would be one thing to ask mechanic's opinions on an existing product. It is completely another to ask how well it will work on something that is still on paper. Hence the debugging phase.

I disagree with the above -- if they didn't have had a couple line or overhaul mechanics involved in the evaluations, I'd be shocked. We routinely do that with ground equipment, so why not cabin equipment?

Still, cut some slack already. Blueprints almost always have some discrepancies between planned and actual, which is the entire purpose for having a prototype.

I'd heard that AA was gonna replace the overhead bins and other interior plastic components with the new-look 763 interior pieces as the new J seats were installed. But one or two people have said that the new sidewalls/bins etc. will only be replaced in the front third or so of the airplane.

Is that true?

Only the area forward of the mid-lav's and mid-galleys is getting the new look interior. Everything aft of the crew rest seats will be the old 1980's overhead bins and side walls.I believe they are reusing the old recaro coach seats, but the entertainment wiring is now mounted entirely under the floor. They may be modifing the old coach seats with the newer style armrests and entertainment boxes, but I'm not sure if that's happening or not.

Thanks, Princess.

Where's the shaking my head in disbelief smiley?

I'm sure there's a good reason (money is tight and all that) for only remodeling the forward part of the cabin with the new-look interior, but aren't pax gonna notice the old crappy bins and panels and wonder what the hell AA was thinking?

Mabel, the front half of the plane looks brand spankin' new, but back here in row 38 it looks old and worn. They musta wrecked a new plane and mated a new front clip to the ass-end of the wreck.

Like pimping the inside of your ride, but only the front seat. Back seat remains covered with the old bed spread 'cause you couldn't swing the cash to re-do the entire car.

Couple of years from now, when AA is done spending this $100 million or so on these inferior new seats, UA will be showing off its new 180 degree horizontal bed Business Class seats and making fun of AA's something old, something new 767 interiors and the new wedgie-hard-as-a-board seats. BA has already announced its second generation 180 degree flat bed Business seats, and they will probably continue to trounce AA over the Atlantic.

Right again FWAAA !

Since AA is "VERY FAST" becoming a Transcon/International airline ONLY, it's time "NOW" to"$HIT, or get off the POT" as far as our W/B a/c are concerned !!

Hey MCI,

You probably have a 767 in MCI that is getting the 2 AFT Center Lavs removed and replaced with seats. They are supposed to start that soon as well.

You're joking, right?

Not at all. Right now there are 6 lavs for all of coach. 2 mid cabin and 4 aft cabin. The 2 Aft center lavs are coming out in place of more seats. The newer 767's that were ordered to replace the TWA 767's came from Boeing like this.

<_< IORFA---- Quit posibly! But frankly, I've been dealing with Air Canada, and our "Special Project" aa 767, so frankly haven't been down to that Dock to check it out! 😉

      Half AAsed airlines!! They treat their employees half assed at best!! They treat thier customers half assed and they have the most half assed management in any industry!! So why not just referbish just the front of our half assed airplane?? Great management decision but I am sure they will not get a half AAsed bonus!!!
