A joke one day we pretended there was an invisible force field dividing the cabin. Went up to it felt it like a mime and then just moved away. Used the car key button to control it when there was a seat belt check, click on click off.jimntx said:I think we have already established the fact that no one listens to the PAs. Jim, pray tell [pun intended] what is a "wheels first" PA. I'm sure after 50 years of AA flying and 3mm AAdvantage Miles (thankfully not all BISM) I have heard this PA, but "wheels first"? Is this the PA at "rotation" or "wheels up"jimntx said:I said the other day after making the "wheels first" PA for the umpteenth time that being a FA makes you understand how St. John the Baptist felt...Just a voice crying in the wilderness.[post="288722"][/post]
"No one listens" is obviously hyperbole. In my case it depends on whether the “safety†PA is live or taped. If taped I don’t listen or watch unless I am on equipment with which I have not recently flown or am otherwise unfamiliar. But if live, I always listen, for many reasons such as accent, enunciation, speaking ability and matching the voice to the person, particularly when in First. I only watch a FA doing the demonstration when appearance has captured my attention.jimntx said:I think we have already established the fact that no one listens to the PAs. "Wheels first" refers to placing bags in the overhead bins wheels first instead of longways; many AA narrowbody bins now accept (and have for several years) standard rollaboards wheels first, practically doubling their capacity. The bin expansion program was announced in about 1998 or so, and has extended to all 738s, many 757s and many MD-80s (on the DEF side of super 80s, IIRC).
FAs have been reminding pax that the bins will hold many bags wheels first but largely to no avail.
Passengers just don't listen. 😛
