On airline news .com it reports that if the Delta /Usair merger doesnt go through Doug PArker will persue NWA. Analyst's say its a better fit than Delta.

I don't think the relationship employees have with NW management would deter Doug from going after NW if the DL deal didn't work. After all we all know it would be US management for the most part taking over. Would NW employees make pins as well? I wish we would just do the NW thing and leave precious Delta right where they are... sitting ducks. 🙄 I guess they at Delta realize that their worst fears have come true....

GOOD I would rather merge with Northwest.
Same here! A US/NWA combination would make more sense on many fronts AND the Star Alliance would have the US-Asia markets all locked up. This could be the master plan afterall. If UA decided to make a run for Delta and US-NWA hookup, there would be some serious pissing and moaning coming out of Dallas. 😛

Yeah, I just think merging another company with little or no overlap is smarter. Wasn't that the main reason the US/AW merger has worked out. I do think IF this were to happen, Memphis will go buh-bye.

How many DC9's does NWA have. I wonder if that fleet would eventually be retired. Of what I understand they were refurbished and look pretty good.

One other point, I don't think NWA has that brain washed mentality that many DAL folk have. I imagine there won't be too many Keep Northwest My Northwest buttons plus for f/a's, were both AFA.

I too think a US/NW merger is highly complimentary from am operational standpoint. MSP and DTW would bridge the gap in the bar-bell. MEM goes away in favor of CLT (as does the DC9s - sorry -9 lovers out there). PIT gets trimmed a bit more in favor of DTW (sorry PIT lovers) and the rest is simple - the domestic narrowbody fleet is similar with the A319/320/321, the 757 fleet (while differant engines) could be used by both domestic and international (one engine type could be used for international with a relative seat configuration, while the other could be more coach/domestic). The 330s are a good match and the 753 and 747 fleet will continue to be used as NW uses them now. The hubs and fleet would be impressive to say the least. Since NW boned, I mean layed off most of the out-station employees, the unions should be happy with ability to grow the workforce at the many US stations that will need to hire union employees to absorb the NW operation.

I like this possibility the best of ANY potential airline merger...

Me too, but I think Parker is looking to a much more transformed system of legacy carriers that may not be recognizable as the hub and spoke carriers. Also, NW and US have the least powerful domestic hub locations of the big six. Again, I agree with you when looking at the traditional 'look' of hubbing carriers. Also, I think that Parker's bid for Delta also puts a floor under the operating margin of any new Delta reorg, supporting the possibility of Delta being smaller than it might otherwise have been.

good points, however, I feel that a hub structure as follows is fairly impressive (in a possible US/NW hookup):

PHL
CLT
DTW
MSP
PHX
NRT

focus cities:

LGA
DCA
LAS
SEA (NW Asia)

PIT and BOS are wild-card focus cities depending on what they would decide to do at those. MEM would almost surly go away as a hub or a focus city IMHO.

Markkus-

I totally agree. I'm just trying to think outside the box.. since my knowledge is so small, it's a short trip.

I agree, I like NW-US along with a deeper partnership with AS (not a merger, though). Announce a larger EMB-190/195 order as a replacement for the DC-9s. My only concern would be that I would want NW management in place, not US.

Also, don't forget AMS is considered a hub of sorts for NW, although that might change if the KLM partnership goes up in smoke.

I don't think thats true...

I'm just hoping that this US/DL things turns into a US/NW thing thats all!!!
