Alaska Airlines becomes first airline to fly nonstop service from LAX to Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C. Gregg Saretsky is very exited about the new service. Alaska Airlines is using 120 the seat Boeing 737-700 to fly this route. Alaska Airlines and Horizon Airlines now serve together 80 cities in Canada, Mexico, Alaska, and the lower 48 states. This is a major step for Alaska Airlines!

Actually, DCA is in Arlington, Virginia, not Washington, D.C.

Actually, DCA is in Arlington, VA but has an address of Washington, DC 20001.
That's just a mailing address. Both DC airports (IAD and DCA) are physically located in Virginia.

And, incidentally, I think the DC address is for the MWAA, not the airport itself.

This route is a government hand-out, pure and simple. Government regulation at it's best!!

Its not like they came up with the idea. They just got the slot from the government. US Airways (who have a focus city or mini-hub, not to mention thier headquarters in DCA), American Airlines, and United Airlines at the very LEAST would surely fly this route if able to.

Bully for AS that they get to fly it for now but I dont think its a sign of thier greatness?
