Point of clarification on all of this since I am from the affected hub:

The people affected in all of this was the wheelchair pushers; people that take the bags off the belts; greeters (I call them that because they assist our CSR's); people that collect and move the baggage tubs; and lav people was the vendors from ABM. (ABM was the third vendor in 5 years or so) The aircraft cleaners and SkyCaps are handled by AirServ & Prime Flight. They are not involved in this. The contracts for this services was handed over again and again before by different outfits, and it was up for renewal. So IMHO, to cut off drives by SEIU (the fight for 15), UA brought in UA Ground to do all of that work and hold off on the revolving door of vendors. I don't know what their scale will be, but I think it it would be much better than they had, plus they will be getting other things like flight benefits; insurance; etc. And paying union dues as well. (I don't know if they will be members of LL914 or not - or they will have their own LL. This wasn't explained yet. I have to go to next months LL meeting for more info) So a win for Sito with more duespayers; and the company with the bad service from the vendors. So I think that most of these people will be hired back to their old jobs, but at something better than what they were making.

I had a feeling that this was going to happen anyway. Our hub general manager talked about this at meetings, because his boss moved the Catering Division over to the Airport Operations Group. (And the union is trying to organize Catering as well.....we will see what happens on that front.) And I think that this will be under that umbrella as well. Hell, he used to run the hub.
Got the feeling of encroachment?

The US Air mgmt does not seem any better than Arpey or Carty. A friend of mine working line transfer support told me the computers were removed from the tugs and they have to google the flights for gate changes. Kelly Moore is gone and that was an error. It's a far cry from when Crandall ran this company. Hardly had any CSM's compared to now and things operated well. When a mgmt team comes in I guess it is kind of normal to dump the previous groups people for your own. I'd just keep the best people.
An honest evaluation....refreshing

Thank you for the clarity T5. You don’t post often but when you do they’re always Home Run hits.

I have a feeling the same thing is coming at AA? Like I said the rumor here in MIA and I’ve heard it from multiple people now is Eulen will be out for many of those same jobs and it’s heading (For now) over to Envoy/ American Eagle Ramp.

Getting that work back in house and back in the hands of the Union puts it all one step closer to us perhaps taking over that work in the future?

More likely them taking over our work thats been the history and you know it

I wouldn’t say more likely Al but sure it’s likely of a lower paid in house arm taking over more work in the future. But I “think” it also creates a better opportunity to gain tasks over to the higher paid arm of represented groups too.

The enactment of higher Airport minimums is helping our cause making an Airport job a more coveted position for people to try to gain.

If you read the premise that the Port Authority board member brought up he did speak on the issue of high Airport job turnover.

Yea so anyways, you need to take reading comprehension. Those 800 workers are union workers. Never said they were IAM. Sure, they have a choice to re-apply and wear the IAM Logo pin for UGS. But that pin is costing them about $5 buck an hour.

These people are NOT Union workers.....yet.
SEIU 32BJ has been trying to organize these people for the longest. They have been supporting these people, and it is well overdue. Remember former Gov. Christie would not raise their wages, but in NYC, Gov. Coumo did. The pressure from the "Fight For 15" groups, and the protests behind that helped make that decision easier, since airport workers were going from vendor to vendor and their wages were being "re-scaled" when a new vendor came in. ABM was the latest outfit that does these duties. We still do our own work and these people do their own and do not and will not encroach on our work. Bottom line is that these people deserve better, and we'll see how this all plays out. At least there will be some accountability and quality control with UGS handling these duties. Personally I do not like UGS, but we all know it was going to happen since DGS & Envoy are out there. So to keep the money "in-house" so to speak, this was coming.
So this was an opportunity for Sito and Co. to beat SEIU to the punch to get these people organized. I didn't know about the wage waiver exemption though.
That was probably needed to "grease the skids" so to speak.

What I'm worried more about is the so called "United" tax that the state legislators are trying to pass, so UA and only UA pays for the infrastructure of the PATH extension. No other airline has to pay for this fuel tax. UA (and CO) has kicked in a ton of money for EWR, and they are making a threat to move some operations to IAD if this happens, so a lot of this can be moot, if they follow thru on the threat. But leaving the NYC area or even reducing presence is suicide....see JFK.

The most you ever made salary, profit. The most secure your job has ever been. The glamour days have been over since the 80s[ Inflation adjusted i made more 18 years ago I had job security written in my contract then also. there were no glamour days but with this quality mngt team we'll be in bankruptcy again . Al you can kiss mngts *** all you want still doesn't change the facts

it's not only that stuff. here, they removed the t-link computer screens in tractors and have a cradle for the new smaller bag scanners.

when i got hired, you ramped bags off a trip sheet and tractors had radios to call ccon..rolling/ship-side calls/flight-gate info.

how in the world did we ramp connect in those days? must have been a miracle.

as far as the lus air people running the company: pulling out/not competing in bos/jfk gives a big boost to jet blue and especially, delta.

in ord, the company has made mysterious moves with china and japan.

passenger service is complaining about lus 'qik'. terrible program compared to laa sabre. we also just saw them hesitate on adding $5 for checked bags. not afraid to throw their weight around with the unions' 'team members', but terrified of angering passengers with an additional $5 checked baggage fee. well, since jetblue and finally delta did it, i guess we will too. largest airline in the world, led around by the nose by jet blue.

corruption that existed from laa days still exists and is even worse today, due to the raises. money-hungry scammers on the clock. c/c CSing with clerks and sitting around. ridiculous stuff.

i'm not impressed and wall street isn't either.

Normally i would give a wise ass answer but becausr its peoples lives and livelyhood i wont. i just dont know why you keep beating this dead horse, bottom line we are one airline and when we have a joint contract ill be senior to you .I honestly rather be your age with your seniority but a fact is a fact and parker is our boss thats it

like i said, i know they let go of a 34 yr CSM here. at the same time, i know someone who is getting hired as a level 3 csm. she is from outside aa, but worked for an intl. airline.

it's obvious: if you're laa and earn big bucks, you're gone. they're replacing them with level 3s starting in the $50ks and can mold them 'the us air/america west' way.

in other words, expert chock technicians.

“The devil is in the details...here is the scope language from the current IAM fleet CBA. Upper case wording is what we do not have in the current TWU fleet scope contract. This "WHEN AND WHERE SO DIRECTED" language removes ANY guarantee of the described work and that is what Jerry Glass and the company wants moving forward. And this is the reason we MUST support the Association and OUR fight for clear and concise Scope protections in the new JCBA.

Fleet Service consists of the classifications of Fleet Service Lead Agent (Full-time and Part-time) and Fleet Service Agent (Full-time and Part-time). Fleet Service work consists of Ramp Service, Operations/Tower and Central Load Planning (CLP). Separate duty assignments may be established.

A. Ramp Service work includes:

1. Normal and customary work associated with the
handling and transporting of luggage and material;
the loading and unloading of aircraft; the delivery of
baggage and Company material.

2. WHERE NOT IN CONFLICT with the terms of the IAM Maintenance and Related Agreement: normal and
customary work associated with receipt and dispatch.

3. WHEN AND WHERE SO DIRECTED: normal and customary work associated with the handling, transportation and processing of in-flight meal, beverage, snack and associated supplies including the packing of beverage kits; normal and customary work associated with the handling of cargo office and warehouse functions; normal and customary work associated with the sortation and transporting of mail and cargo.

4. WHEN AND WHERE SO DIRECTED and where not in conflict with terms of the IAM Maintenance and Related Agreement: normal and customary work for both through and RON flights associated with servicing aircraft, including lavatory and water systems, cleaning aircraft interiors, arranging passenger service and galley equipment, trash removal, changing of seat covers, performing minor preventative maintenance on ground equipment; aircraft movement, performing GPU and airstart deicing aircraft, and other duties associated with the servicing of line aircraft.

5. WHEN AND WHERE SO DIRECTED: work associated with US Airways Express aircraft and other non-company aircraft, the operation of jetways, performing catering security checks, and any other station work.”

Hey if anyone here thinks that Fleet Service is “overpaid” here’s what a NYC Garbageman represented by the IBT makes. (Don’t forget to add in all the other perks)

I will not support the association. They do not look out for the members best interest . It’s all about the dues money. Coming to them. When we didn’t get the vote we were promised I say screw this association ran by clowns .they need professional to go up against Gerry glass
