Some highlights:
-Nelson is indeed a native Oregonian
-Her mother was a teacher & NEA member and inspired her to go into teaching. (700 had said her mother was a TWA F/A)
-Nelson launched her career in STL as a teacher at a school district. A friend called her summarizing the UA AFA CBA in 1996 and she "drove to Chicago" the next day to interview with UA. UA F/A starting pay in 1996 exceeded STL teacher pay.
-Nelson got involved with the union after multiple payroll issues the company wouldn't resolve as a new hire.
-Her initial UA base was BOS and she stated that she would fly back and forth BOS-ORD-BOS just for the meal served on board


Overall lots of talk about the #metoo movement and efforts to protect F/As and passengers from harassment aboard flights. The first ~10 minutes of the podcast is with the United Here (hotel workers) union discussing the new CBAs with Marriott properties in several cities following their job action.

Ive been in charge of this District since the Big Picture. You dont have to be an officer to be in charge. The Club hates me and keeps changing its constitutions to weaken my grip but in doing so it weakened its own intl constitution and district bylaws, and had to abandon democracy.

And once it pays itself another hefty salary increase, it will weaken even more for me to initiate the attack from outside the shell now.

Our iam flight attendants got cornholed by the iam. The iam should just get out of the representation business and focus on management chores and consulting.
I wouldnt even be disappointed in them. But they take members money then go to management with it.
And Klemm doesnt have anything better to do so he comes on here.

Tim I wonder if AFA will try to organize DL once the IAM exclusivity window closes. AFA is desperate for new dues payers, Sara Nelson likes to talk and say she has members at 20 carriers but other than UA (and maybe AS) they’re small regional, low cost, and charter operators.

AFA has for years been pushing a merger with APFA. AA F/As want nothing to do with the AFL-CIO after seeing what a joke this association has been. APA and APFA came out better in bankruptcy than the TWU.
