i got more locals than you got individual votes. The per capita of my locals was around 50% of the active membership. Martinez got 600 locals with 1-25 members in them. he could fit 200 of his locals in my local 839 which is the biggest local in the midwest. And fit about 300 of his locals in local 751.
At the end of the day, they had to change the constitution and voting places to survive. In doing so, they destroyed democracy and are now vulnerable from the outside.
A wonderful opportunity to start taking their members and providing the union representation they lack now.

Actually, the iam had alot of people join instead of being dues objectors this year so they could vote for me. Now, one by one, i am coaching them to resign. Simply no reason to be a member.

And alot of twu peeps been in touch. Especially mx. Im not going to get involved unless amp leadership wants someone that will finish the job.

Sara Nelson is a prime example of what a 21st century labor leader should be.

All the chest thumpers and breakroom heroes should take notes.

Been about 36 hours since I listened to the podcast but I found it very interesting how she spoke of democracy and other women in the union enabling her rise to the top international spot after at most 18 years of company seniority at UA.

Unlike APFA, AFA-CWA delegates elect leadership, not the membership directly. Not sure I’d call that democracy. Sara has a great gig for herself but I can only imagine how many people high up at the UA MECs that were passed over in 2010-11 for Veda Shook’s [relatively] short stint compared to Pat Friend who now see Sara likely there for several more decades. Pat Friend stayed throught the third failed DL drive (2002, 2008 standalone, 2010 NW Representation) hoping to round out her Union career.

So in effect a whole generation of AFA members-not just at UA-likely won’t have an opportunity for that cushy spot at the top.

The question still stands why does AFA-CWA keep wanting to merge with APFA? Why do they breathe new life into the TWA SLI? Did the AFL-CIO bylaws forbid them from getting involved since the TWA F/As were former IAM? No nAAtive will support giving them full DOH on principle.

yeah, barring any unseen health concerns ill prolly retire around 78.
