prez do u know if the union submitted a complete proposal since the talks ended and if so has the mgmt. clowns come up with any new offer

My take on negotiations is that we are being held hostage for the LUS medical and IAM pension. The minority holding the majority hostage.

Your whole take?
You must be laa?
If so, then yes yourr talks have ceased as your main negotiator Alex Garcia has a heart and has decided to join our cause to keep our healthcare. The company says thats a deal breaker so there isnt going to be any talks till section 6 or if the Association flips on the medical.

As far as the pension, I am not only hostage but this damn union continues to take my retirement. Im goin to only be left with $34 a month regardless so i support the company goin to bat for me against my unions desire to destroy whatever is left in my retirement.
Unfortunately, my fellow iam members are clueless about the pension, especially those like cltrat, PJ, and JayD who stand down and close their eyes and mouths over these things.
So Sad.

Jester,

I agree with employees getting educated. Regarding vesting, you don't get vested in a 401k for 5 years either. As for pensions, if they were the norm, it would be the best for employees and they could supplement it with a 401k. Sucks that Corporate America destroyed the pension and sold the 401K as gold.

Prez--- as far as the several pro-nelson/nelson posters here are concerned-- the Company is not the enemy... the UNION is!
The pension sucks because it's has "IAM" in the branding. The 401k is being pushed by these posters becuse they know it's benefical for the Company!
Of course they will never admit this, because it would blow their cover...

Think about it, why someone that works for a bank, or another Airline entirely, be concerned about OUR contracts?

So the dealbreaker is MEDICAL......Since it is not the LAA medical which a majority of the AA workforce participates in, then it must be the LUS medical. And people should be concerned they may lose it.

And yes i am LAA. But let's be honest here, the TWU sides' main complaint is outsourcing...scope and jobs...Be it the town halls or forums like these, what I see is for the LUS side the medical issue as the main issue in negotiations? Am I wrong here, Tim? I am not saying that the medical is not a big deal for the LUS people, but is it not true?

And I commend you for setting the record straight on your pension, but how many people grasp what you are conveying?

you keep your iam pension give me the 401k and i will take care of the money if people don't put in enough for the full match that is their business i do not want the iam anywhere near my money and i don't want a multiemployer pension that has such a bad guarantee from the pbgc if this pension is forced on me i am voting no

We are all hostages. By whom?
Pick one or all.
AA
TWU
IAM
AFL-CIO
NMB
The Association

+1

The underlying idea that workers aren’t “educated” enough to control their own money is also insulting.

I guess that 401k advice people didn't tell you that the people that came up with the 401k did so as a supplement to a pension.

the irony is that the 401k was once an obscure tax hideaway for the wealthy to tuck away untaxed income...and pay lower taxes on that income in the future.

corporate america has to be laughing their collective a$$es off on the golf course as they watch the same people they f*(7ed, brag and exhalt the 401k.

bottom line, you are now funding your own pension via your 401k. the money that corporate american once contributed to your pension, now goes to the shareholders.

there is no law that once a bk company gets back on it's feet, has to unfreeze or 'un-terminate' it's pensions. why? because those on the golf course won't allow it. life is good when you can ghostwrite the law.

in the meantime, keep bragging about how clever you are with your investing..even more laughs on the 5th hole.

this isn't an editorial about this current 401k vs. pension argument in this little corner of the world. it's an editorial on the sad state of near corporatism in the usa.

the deal breaker for the company is medical. Im fine with that. What im not fine with is the pension dealbreaker for the iam. True, lus members are clueless and ignorant on it and will have themselves to blame when the twu gets 9%+ 401 and the iam steals all remaining non guaranteed pension benefits.

Who let that happen?

Spoiler alert: We ALL did.

Until that changes, workers should be doing everything they can to control their compensation (regular and deferred, both). Labor unions should be doing everything in their power to facilitate that.

@Kev3188

i don't argue any of that. in fact, kudos to all for the enthusiasm and for taking the time to educate one's self on investing their money for retirement.
