They certainly need to get away from the tough guy mentality.

You'd hope it turns from representatives telling Members what they want to hear to being more of an organization that earns their way.

Telling Members what they want to hear is good for getting elected but it's bad in the long run because to survive they turn to blaming others or point fingers as they can't deliver what's promised.
Kind of forces the unions into Customer service doesnt it and we are paying customers

The unions need to get their collectivist act together. Far too many six-figure people, and even at the local levels demonstrate too much favoritism such that those members not with the clique begin to question paying dues. If dues paying becomes truly voluntary, then the unions run the risk of becoming financially insolvent unless they appear to be truly representative of all members and beyond reproach.

However, in an environment for which pricey meals, cronyism, nepotism, expensive hotels, daily allowances, separate pensions, exorbitant salaries, private jets, etc. are considered to be acceptable since the days of mafia influence, I doubt there will be many high-minded, philosophical, ethically-introspective types to demonstrate leadership and change the culture, especially while waving the union-paid credit card at a nearby convention jiggle joint.

Either the union needs to clean-up its leadership and provide competent representation, or get ready to start downsizing the lifestyle while looking for a safety vest and knee pads.

Yes, they are bad....

Everyone is missing the point of this.

You could have the perfect union but when Members realize they can get represented even without paying dues a large percentage will opt out. Especially the younger Members who don't yet appreciate the time of unions in history.
Why would you,you the union would be gone any reasonable person would see that

I agree with Jester Im not saying your bias but you have a more vested interest (lack of a better word)especially if you are in the position 700 said you are

Maybe I am one of those (self-described) high-minded persons, but I do not think people object to paying for value, especially when there is a truly representative union for all and bounded by ethics-- and therein lies the problem.

Not really. Those that pay and don't pay get the same service.

Aside from that service is in the eye of the beholder so there is way to measure how you're doing solely based on the number of dues paying members.

I have no vested interest.

I'll put it this way. I see many members cancel their LTD insurance because they don't want to pay the premiums. That hurts no one but the Member and their family. Yet, they still do it.

How many more would opt not to pay if they would get the coverage without the premiums?

Yes, they are bad....

Do you guys just think on autopilot?

You do realize that you and all your TOS AMT’s make 6 figures now right? You also should know that TWU LOCAL 100 Repreaents a ton of “workers” who also make 6 figures.

Maybe you should be a little more concerned with the people in this World who make 7, 8 and more figures?

I have no vested interest.

Will you refrain from running this year? Of course you have a vested interest. If I were in your position I would freely admit it.

Weez if FL said you didn't need car insurance to drive you'd still get it wouldnt you?

When I was younger Al I would get the insurance every year just when I needed to renew my registration and then I would go the next 11 Months without.

I wouldn’t do that now only because my car is expensive, I can afford the Insurance and they change the Law to make you HAVE to get insured.

You think young people think a certain way? No. They just want to keep as much money as possible.

That’s true, but maybe more importantly, they have zero interest in paying for some just because “that’s the way it’s always been done.” On the other hand, if they see value in it, they’ll be the first in line to pay; just don’t be surprised when they want to use Venmo or Square.

You obviously forget being young for real. I wanted to get as much chit for free as I possibly could. More money for girls, drugs and beer. And that lasted firmly into my mid 30’s.
