American Indians say kiss off!

They certainly have an abundance of precedents to use in the World/ and Supreme Courts. There's no way they can lose based on the past worthiness the United States places on the value of treaties. That dirty sleaze ball, back stabbing, two faced Andrew Jackson's actions alone would win their case.

Based on law, the US doesn't have a leg to stand on. Their only claim would be an out right annexation of a foreign nation, which is what they did anyway.

Good for the Lakota! (look for the Cherokees to join)

This seems to be another case of Fox News jumping on a story without doing their homework. As far as I know Russell Means is not an elected official of the Lakota Nation. So its questionable if this proclamation actually means anything.

Russell Means is a member of the Oglala Lakota nation( Oglala reservation, in SW SD., very near Rapid City) Oglala Lakota Nation..(think) Wounded Knee. Chief RED CLOUD.

Sioux is a derogatory term, of a shortened french word for SNAKES, given to the Lakota/Dakota/Nakota people by their arch enemys the Chippewa(Ojibwe), as they drove them from Minnesota to the Dakota's

Back to Russell Means,..... yes fixer is correct, RM is NOT an elected member of the Oglala Tribal council, but his activism, and Key member of AIM(American Indian Movement), during the takeover of Wounded knee memorial, occupation of the offices of the BIA(bureau of Indian Affairs) in DCA, and occupation of Alcatraz Island, back in the late 70's, has certainly given RM Strong standing in the Lakota nation.

Sadly, the Lakota Nation is suffering from the EXACT same malaise as the TWU, where more members have become "cozy" with the very people still trying to ERADICATE them, ...The FEDS., or in AA case, Management.

There Is still(THANKFULLY) a percentage of Traditional Lakota people, who want Nothing to do with the FEDS.(In "AA speak", ...think AMFA)

RM is the only(still) active member of AIM, as Dennis Banks has retreated to the northern Minnesota woods, to run his wild rice farm, and Leonard Pelltier is still in Prison, awaiting a new trial, because the original was a HORRIBLE SHAM(evidence withheld on purpose to get a conviction)
I,m NOT saying Pelltier was'nt involved in the shooting of two FBI guys, but I am saying his trial was a National Embarrasment.

Yes I'm a bit familiar with the history concerning the Lakota Nation, AIM and Russell Means. That's why when I saw Russell Means name in that Fow News report the flags went up. Another indication was that it wasn't gettting that much attention from any other news sources. One would think that if it had really happened it would be all over the news.

You/I/and others WOULD have thought that it would have been all over the News.

The Reality is that the Lakota nation, like a lot of other casino POOR tribes(not to be confused with the casino RICH tribes of NE/CA/FL/NY/OR/WA) don't have the Huge money, to make say a news organization like NBC..."An OFFER they can't REFUSE" !!

So the "stalemate" continues with the FEDS.
As you probably know, the LAST THING the fuuking US Government wants, is the older teens(high school/college) to know the true HORROR STORY of the Lakota, and Others.
And the reason is simple.
These "kids" of today(GOD BLESS THEM) REFUSE to be placated with LIES(about the real story) that was spoon fed to your generation, and mine, with TWISTED truths !

In the 1700, a man who signed the Declaration of Independance who was a ship owner, appointed known slavers commissions in the new navy, and was a freemason and dedicated to maintaining the status quo attended a meeting to decide upon the Indian problem. The conclusions of that meeting were in fact the policies used after that.

Reseverations are now the status quo. This is not likley to change. You can band all the able bodies native american braves together, and all you would get would be a few interesting days on CNN, and a whole lot of political commetory which will mean nothing, for these braves would have thrown their lives away, and the rest, on to federal prison.

Then it all wouls fade away.

When it leaves the public consiousness, meaning when the media chooses to delete, all of America will delete with them.
 
Well not quite Nq6v. It is a far different world now. With the US running around the world preaching HUMAN rights and Nation building. Native Americans would only have to take their case to the World Court. The same Court that prosecuted Nazis and others.

Genocide does not have a statue of limitations. Native Americans could be looking at trillions of dollars in compensation. PAY or give up most of the United States to it's legal owners of the last 10,00-45,000 years. (unlike the way the US cheated American Black Slaves out of 300 years of FREE labor..with a racist President Andrew Johnson after reconstruction whom erased all compensation. Thus starting the great battle in politics of the Republican Abolishionists/ Northern Voters whom demanded FREEDOM and equality for American Blacks vs. Johnson and Southern racists whom begin to install oppressive Jim Crow laws...pretty much re establishing the racistis pre civil war South.)

The FEDS are watching CLOSELY, with a little nervousness, as a handful of tribes EMASS fortunes via casino's(The FEDS knowing that there is NOTHING they can DO to these tribes)

The problem is, that the number of Tribes are on both coasts, and are in small numbers(of tribes)

The LARGE tribes, who, if they ever had that kind of Money, could virtually re-open the history books, and BOY, would THAT be a sight to see.

I'm speaking of the LAKOTA/DAKOTA/NAKOTA people of mostly in ND/SD, and the HUGE NAVAHO Nation whose Reservation covers .."4" states(AZ/UT/NM/CO).

These people still have their language, and to a lesser extent, their culture still in tact, but are located in remote area's NOT conducive to making huge sums of money, like their east/west coast neighbors.

I lived in CT. ....."1" town away from THE RICHE$T "single" casino..."IN THE W O R L D "....Owned by the Pequots...It's called "Foxwoods". 7 "mere' miles to the west is located the Mohegan Sun, owned by the Mohegan tribe. IT is the second richest single casino...in the WORLD(like meaning..More money than Monte Carlo, more money than the BELLAGIO in vegas)

Now that you have given yourself that warm fuzzy feeling by trying to look progressive can I ask you a question? If they were to get their land back where would you go? Did it ever occur to you that there might be some tribe out there that views the land you live on as sacred? They might get that land and tell you to get the hell off.

You have mentioned the World Court. If you are talking about the International Court of Justice let me point out they did not prosecute the Nazi's. That case was tried by an International Military Tribunal. The ICJ did not try its first case until 1947 and that involved the UK vs. Albania. Let’s say they were to bring such a case in front of the ICJ and were to win. Number one how would the ICJ enforce the decision? Number two the United States is not the only country where native peoples have displaced. The native peoples in those countries could do the exact same thing. And what about parts of countries that used to belong to other countries? Parts of Poland and Russia used to belong to Germany. There are islands in the North Pacific that Russia controls that used to belong to Japan. Once you open the flood gates then what?

Here's what I find interesting. You go on rants about illegal immigrants then turn around and talk about how land and or money should be given to Native Americans. Did it ever occur to you that those same Native Americans might view you as the "illegal immigrant"? One that should be sent packing, or thrown in prison for six months then sent packing. What's really funny is that those illegal immigrants you speak of have native blood running through their veins. That's what Mexicans are, a mixture of Spanish and Indian. One could argue they have more of claim to this part of the world than you do. Hope you see the irony in all this.
