What's new

And so it begins

Anderson is playing his hand like a Champion !!

Conventional wisdom would dictate that the #1 deal is with NW,.....BUT, if NW, due to Brutal resistance from the unions , makes thing too difficult, Anderson turns and does a "180" to an eagerly awaiting UAL.

A UAL/DL deal, brings NO significant union resistance from ual, because the MAJORITY of the total "new" DL brings more than 50% of the employees(F/A's-AMT's/FSC's) ALREADY union(from UAL)

Alpa pilots(from both) would dovetail.

The "ABOVE" then pits NW and CO, leaving NW the survivor, with a (CO) Non-union Customer service and Ramp group, ...........which, depending on the numbers in each of the two group, ........."might" ultimately leave the "new" NW with a non-union ramp and CS group. (If the "latter" is the case, I still think that the two groups WOULD get enough total votes to go ALL Union)

Again, I cannot say it ENOUGH,..........Anderson is playing his hand like a "texas hold em" CHAMP !!!!!!

Well, I said the same things about Doug Parker last year during the hostible-takeover attempt of Delta.....I thought he had NW in his sites the entire time, trying to keep pushing chips into the pot to make everyone nervous, and then pounce on NW that was still in bankrupcy who was viewing their demise (assuming UA and CO were considering pairing off). Instead, Doug kept raising, raising, raising, then folded.....

I guess my point is, who knows what these guys are thinking, or what their motivations truly are.

I can only assume that considerable thought is given in such matters, but sometimes I wonder if catalysts are racy pictures provided by hedge fund managers who have full-time P.I.'s tailing CEO's seeing who's stepping out on their wives.

Is it possible that in certain hubs, certain airlines are non-union? Maybe certain workforces such as ground crews and csr aren't union?

NWA and United have been outsourcing jobs to a private airline firm where I'm from. I had to do a double-take when I saw an NWA csr, working the United counters. This has been going on for over a year.

NW has outsourced some of its ramp but really took aim at the counter during it's restructuring. If NW and DL merge we will have to hold a vote to see if we will unionize. With DL farming out way too much of their ramp work and counter, (not enough main line DL to vote), the vote will easily be in favor of the union. We will all stand together. Not one hub for it's self. Don't worry "Signals", the union brothers here at NWA will welcome all of you in as soon as the smoke clears.

Nobody will be laughing once the ball really gets rolling on this. PS If DL gets together with UA who will be picking up the bill for the tails on those two planes you guys smucked up in SFO?

I'm sure the f/a's will be held responsible for that one. Closest to the tail at the time of impact, ya know.

Maybe the IAM since they are doing the push-backs now
Regardless what happens, I'll still be laughing

Good Luck!

This began back when Anderson left NW. The fact that Comair was for sale, NW and DL filed for bankruptcy at the same time, and Pinnical is already flying for both may have been pretty big flags for all.

Newbie-I have recently started following the possible merger on the discussion boards. How many regionals does DL have flying for them? Doesn't DL have more than Comair & Pinnacle? Pinnacle is regional for NW with several CRJ 50 seaters being utilized in hubs DTW,MEM & MSP. According to this article not sure how this is going to work for Pinnacle and other regionals fling CRJ 50 seaters.

DL: Comair, ASA, Pinnacle, Republic/Chatauqua, Skywest (maybe I missed one???)

NW: Mesaba, Pinnacle, Compass

In addition, DL has some XJT at-risk flying at LAX, but word is that it's not doing any better than the XJT branded flying.

Regionals for DL include ASA, Comair, Chautauqua (Republic), Shuttle America (Republic), Freedom (Mesa), SkyWest, ExpressJet (fee-for-departure and at-risk) and Pinnacle. DL also places its code on some America Eagle flights out of LAX, but those aren't marketed as Delta Connection.

DL's never met a regional carrier that it didn't want to get in bed with.

Just recieved the following:

To:
Delta Colleagues Worldwide
From:
Richard Anderson and Ed Bastian
Subject:
Update On Consolidation

The media continues to have daily coverage speculating on the airline industry, including speculation involving Delta. As you know, for several months our Board and leadership have been reviewing strategic alternatives, including potential consolidation, to ensure that Delta maintains its leadership position in the industry.

Our review has been guided, from the beginning, by certain principles that have to be met if there were to be consolidation with another airline. Our principles are:

that the airline be called Delta, headquartered in Atlanta
that the seniority of our people is protected
that the pension plans of our employees and retirees are maintained
that the network is strengthened and our plans for international expansion are accelerated
and, most importantly, that there is even greater job security along with more career opportunities for our people

To date, we have not arrived at a potential transaction that meets all of our principles. Rest assured that we will not complete a transaction unless all of these conditions are met. We have a strong stand-alone plan. We will maintain our attention on executing that plan while we continue to look at strategic alternatives.

We appreciate the professionalism and dedication you show every day in running the airline. It is the “Delta Differenceâ€￾ that sets us apart.

Thank you.
