What's new

Ann Coulter

My argument is how do you tell your kid not to smoke when you have a cigarette hanging from your lower lip. Seems a bit disingenuous don’t you think? I don’t like the idea any better than you do (I have relatives in Israel) but do as I say not as I do never worked well for me.

Then you can never side with any politician for there is a (metaphorical) 'cigarette' hanging from all of their mouths (among other objects 😛).

Ms. Coulter a Christian????? Not one word of Christ's teachings have I ever read that supports 1/1000 of the hate, venom, racism, and bile that she spews on a regular basis. If she is what a Christian is supposed to be, then...

As Gandhi once said, "Having read the teachings of Jesus Christ I could very easily have been a Christian, if I had not met so many of them."

Christ said, "Thou shalt love the Lord, thy God, with all thy heart and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great Commandment. And, the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

He did NOT say "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself as long as his/her skin color, nationality, and beliefs are the same as yours."

you apparently don't read 700's "teachings".

It's VERY Interesting that......almost all of us on here have a "piece" of the great puzzle that is;
"What is the "correct" belief system !

Upon examination of ALL the popular religions of the world, they all believe in a "higher power"...and In my opinion, we don't need to look any futher than that !!

I have anguished for years, trying what/who to believe.

Should the Creator "call my number" tommorow, I will leave here believing that within what we now call America, that the Indians had it EXACT(especially the Indians of the Great Plains) (Lakota/Dakota etc.)

Believers

A "believer" can be defined as "a member who accepts something as true." Although their original meanings differed (faith was an intellectual process, while belief involved action), belief and faith are interrelated, in that, from a Christian perspective, a believer is defined as "someone whose actions are based on their faith." The English word faith came from the Latin word fides (from which also came fidelity - an act of being faithful) which meant "active loyalty to whom one is bound by promise or duty." True believers don't just "talk the talk," they "walk the walk"

Believers and Unbelievers

Many became believers in the early days of the church:
"And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and pallets, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits , and they were all healed" (Acts 5:14-16 RSV)
Note: while many miracles were performed by Peter and all of the other apostles, Peter and the others made it very clear that the power was not their own: "why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk?" (Acts 3:12 RSV)

From ancient times to the present, believers and unbelievers are often found within the same family:
"To the rest I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is consecrated through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is consecrated through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy. But if the unbelieving partner desires to separate, let it be so; in such a case the brother or sister is not bound. For God has called us to peace." (1 Corinthians 7:12-15 RSV)

Speaking in tongues was a tool for bringing the Gospel message to unbelievers, while Prophecy was useful only if and after they became believers, who would believe the Truth:
"Thus, tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is not for unbelievers but for believers." (1 Corinthians 14:22 RSV)

While believers should make every effort to help unbelievers understand, believers were not to unnecessarily associate with unbelievers, who would drag them down, morally and religiously:
"What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? What agreement has the Temple of God with idols? For we are the Temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore come out from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty." (2 Corinthians 6:15-18 RSV)

Well 700IAM, a few observations.

First, your quote of 2 Corinthians 6:15-18 RSV is EXACTLY the teaching that keep the AMISH, the AMISH. ............(I bet you thought I might not know that) 🙄

As for your Interpetation/belief, you mention numerous times, "The written word"/New testament.

As for the Indians of the Great Plains(Lakota), and for all Indians, They Did NOT use the written word, just teachings past down from thousands of generations(Elders to Children), and drawings such as pictographs, and an annual (sort of Mural) called "the Winter count", illustrated on deerskin to tell of the events of that particuliar year.

So I'm sure you can see, that the "written word" was not applicable, but that CERTAINLY did'nt make them any less BELIEVERS in "Wakan Tanka".........(Lakota word for the CREATOR)

One other thing that you may/may not know.
In Lakota teachings, there IS acknowlegment of a GREAT FLOOD !

Interesting, would'nt you say ?

I don't understand your point when you attempt to show similarities between Lakota teachings and Jewish teachings. Do you mind unpacking it a bit?

Do you think that the similarities lends credibility to one teaching or the other?

BTW... I do find it interesting that flood stories show up in several religous/historical documents, or oral tradition in some instances.

What Happened To Tonto?

If you watched (if you were around back then) or watch (if you subscribe to some of the cable or satellite channels that run old TV shows) the 1950s program The Lone Ranger, you know that Tonto was the "Lone" Ranger's Indian ally and companion. Tonto was played by Jay Silverheels (he was born Harold J. Smith, but legally changed his name to his long-used "stage name" in the 1970s) who was born at an Indian reservation near Brantford, Ontario. When he died in 1980, his body was cremated and the ashes were brought back from California and scattered over the Mohawk reservation where he was born.

What happened to Tonto? When the day comes, how will Jay Silverheels, and the great many other people all around the world who have been cremated over the centuries, be resurrected? Does it matter that they were cremated?

Ashes To Ashes, Dust To Dust

Throughout the Bible, people were routinely buried, not cremated. According to God's Word, that is the preferred method, when circumstances permit a choice. But it should be kept in mind that the bodies of those who are buried are also all eventually reduced to the indistinguishable earth elements from which man was created eventually, there is nothing left of their physical bodies. It should also be kept in mind that many of God's people over the centuries have been completely lost in fires (some deliberately, as martyrs), or vaporized in explosions, or eaten by lions or sharks etc. in which there remained no body - and you can be sure that the absence of a body will make no difference to their salvation.

So what will happen to Jay Silverheels when the time comes? He will be resurrected, along with every other human that has ever existed?

"And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works." Revelation 20:11-13 KJV)

700IAM,
Please simplify your last paragraph, for someone(me) who needs "it" put into everyday language.

Thanx.

Lily,

I did'nt realize that I WAS making a comparison between the 5000+ yr. Jewish faith, and 10,000+ yr. Aboriginal Spiritualities .

Again, "not the brightest bulb on the tree"(me), so perhaps your could simplify(for me) also.
Thanx.

Fair enough..700IAM.

After thinking MORE about "it"(Revelations), it's really a mute point, since as I mentioned before, the Lakota never used the written word, until their Children were "ripped" from their homes, and sent to delightful places like the Carlisle School, in Pa.
There they sheared off their hair(Hair is very Important to Indian people), beaten if they spoke their native language, forced to take Christian names etc.

The "Civilized Wisdom" at the time, strongly believed that the "only way", was to KILL the Indian and SAVE the soul. To this Very day, the "experiment" was not successful.

I've got a Indian/Religious factual story for you 700.

THE most recognized Indian Chief, in the history of the US was Sitting Bull(Lakota). In THE most popular picture of Sitting Bull, he's wearing a very large Crucifix, which was given to him by Belgian mission Priest..Pierre Jean De Smet.(look De Smet up 700, lots of Info online about him)
The Crucifix is not seen often, because the majority of that picture(s) are shot from the chest upward.

De Smet's "niche" was to travel from tribe to tribe, to Evangelize(he had minor success)
Nonetheless, De Smet was accepted by the different tribes, because of his Bravery to ride into camps Alone, plus he spoke the different languages.
De Smet became a VERY close friend of Sitting Bull, and gifted SB the large crucifix.
Ta Tanka Iyotaka(Sitting Bull) wore the "gift" often, out of reverence to his friend, but Never converted.

De Smet also wanted (IN PART) to try to end the warring between the tribes and the Calvary.

Obviously, De Smet was a Catholic priest, so "IF" YOU are(say) an Evangelical Protestant , I'm not sure how you may look upon him, because of the.....(well, you know)...the small "matter" of ......the ROME "thing"

And today there are true believing Christians who know the Lord and the Lord knows them but their ancestors were Slave owners. Does this make them hypocrites and not worthy?

Guess what? Every single soul is unworthy and what the word’s all about. We just can’t save ourselves but thru his grace only are we saved from eternal destruction.

I know you are trying to rationalize things by looking at the obvious which is a great ploy by the enemy---keep the lost occupied on frivolous things until they are mine and mine alone. This is why hell is overflowing.

I can’t talk you into heaven but I can pray for you and I will.
