It will be more like 253 parked by the end of 2005.

Nah. HP needs the East Coast routes and
operations. They will only park as many as
are needed to fit the POR/merger equation.

Then park the 253 and let HP buy what they want (and only what they want) out of Chapter 7. It might actually work that way.

Clicking your heels together three times and saying "There's no place like home" might have worked for Dorothy, but just calling yourself an LCC doesn't actually make you an LCC. US still had one of the three highest mainline CASM's in the industry in the first quarter, and that's even after the vast majority of the employee concessions! US was still 3 cents/mile above Southwest and America West.

Besides, by the time the dust settled in a hypothetical integration, Southwest would probably be larger than the merged company. I'm fairly certain they already have (or will soon) more jets than US and HP combined.

Looking at SWA delivery schedule it looks like they can add 33 planes in 2006, 54 planes in 2007, and 51 planes in 2008. I believe that AWA has only 145 mainline planes. A combination of AWA and US will not create the largest LCC by a longshot. SWA has about 410 planes in its fleet now. Just my thoughts...........

tsk tsk, how can you be so negative?

I have to agree with spindoc here. The grand picture has the old dead wood, routes and equipment removed, so the combined company can leverage the financing. I am sure there are some LGA/DCA slots and some aircraft that will help tie the deal together.
