It's a little late, but has anything been done to get the furloughed folks a little holiday cheer this year? My understanding is the CAL pilot group had enough donations from their active members to get each furloughed pilot a $25 gift card. Has the US pilot group done anything similar?

Wow how generous. Welcome to US Airways where the senior eat the young and you are suppose to say thank you. You were warned.
Wow... at thread that expects everyone to pay for the stupidity of some junior guys who came to work
at this place free and willingly.... not forced to like in the USSR.... and now complaining that someone
owes you.... You choose this path of work.... you could have gone to another airline .... if they hired you..

The Senior people paid their dues as well... and if you talk to some of them..... they have been there
done that just like you.... so attacking them is very very uncalled for ..... and I would call that A Looser.

Oh... PS maybe this guy does not deserve insurance...????

And who pays for their insurance????? The guys still working...??? And this guy is going to shoot daggars
at the guys who have no control over the job and employer that he choose

Wow. I ask a simple question, get an answer, and then 2 more threads berating guys hired recently for going to work there. I knew you guys we some dysfunctional SOB's, but damn!

Glad to hear insurance is being covered. That is a bigger help than it seems on the surface.

i feel really bad for you furloughed guys , my heart goes out to ya ... best wishes to all of you .

I think the CAL giftcard was a great idea. (I think its now more than $25 now...)
Anyway, I think being able to keep health insurance at no cost will prove much more valuable than a simple gift card... I'm sure if you asked any CAL furloughee which they would prefer, most would choose the insurance...

It's a sham! The furloughee pays for the insurance up front and files a expense report with usapa for reimbursement (yeah right). I just don't trust anything they do or say.

Yeah I'd like some holiday cheer - I just woke up from a nightmare, it's 2004, and the merger never happened.

I think you're right!

I think that $1000+ a month is quite a good benefit. I used the same benefit in 2003 when I was furloughed. As far as it being a scam, ALPA did it the exact same way....pay the COBRA cost yourself, then get reimbursed. So USAPA isn't doing it any differently than ALPA did.

Either way you look at it, it's a tremendous help to have health insurance coverage when you are out of work.

First off, it's crappy $79/month coverage through a no name joint, not COBRA. Second, I trust ALPA to pay me back. usapa has a way of weasling out of commitments as do the east pilots.

This #$#@# me off. If you don't want it, you don't have to take it, it will reduce my assessment. Fess up, the reason you don't want it is because you have to be a member in good standing to get it. Like USAPA or not, most pilots want to help out. Is the west side helping their furloughed, or does all the money have to go to the lawyers?

Furlough Committee Update
December 2, 2008

Fellow Pilots,
The vote on the Furloughed Pilot Insurance Assessment passed; we would like to thank everyone that voted yes. Essential Care Rx has been chosen to administer alternative health benefits and their web site is now available to you so that those that need it will be able to sign-up or check out the various options. Please note that Essential Care Rx is administering the plans they do not have anything to do with the assessment, billing of membership or the USAPA part of the program. Please check out the link below to find out more about the insurance plans.

The Essential Care Rx web site address is: http://usairlinepilotsassoc.essentialcarerx.com

Furloughed Pilots MUST BE IN GOOD STANDING before their date of furlough. (I guess they didn't want to cover the west because 98 guys are on furlough prior to December 2nd. Was there a mention of this little detail in the 5 furlough committee updates to the west pilots? Nope!)
