APFA Constitutional Amendments

I do. They are members of the balloting committee. They maintain control and the integrity of the ballots and the elections. You see Jim you can make a post with out being demeaning, snarky or attacking someones spelling as though that somehow makes your argument more valid.

Oh, and you and boston know for a fact that they only go to the mailbox to pick up ballots on days that will result in a trip removal? Or, that they bid their lines to make sure that they only have to do union work on days they can be trip removed? Seems you and boston agree with my pet name, The Blessed Order of the Perpetually Trip-Removed.

There is no way that they would be trip removed for a whole month for nothing but going to the mailbox to pick up ballots as boston said. As I said, not even the APFA would be that inefficient. And, if they are, they should be removed, not given more power as these amendments will do.

Is there any kind of government agency overseeing this election? Considering that it's no secret how the former TWAers will vote what's to keep APFA from taking every single envelope that has an employee number starting with 64 or 65 and throwing it in the trash?

The ballot is inside an envelope, inside a mailing envelope. The balloting committee checks in each mailed envelope for eligibility, and then opens them in the presence of witnesses. They are then taken to a second group of people who actually open and run each ballot through a computer scanner to be counted. Any rejected are counted by hand.

When you understand the process you will know why that could not be done.

Agreed.... the Ballot Committee also sets up a viewing gallery where any member in good standing can come and sit and observe everything. Those with concerns should come and see what the process is like. It's actually a quite interesting event to observe.

Usually, one or two members of the NBC will get a paper bid in the 30 days leading up to the count. They go into the office and answer calls, queries for lost or damaged ballots and send out duplicate ballots, etc. This is usually the chair and vice chair of the committee. The day of the election, the members of the committee will come and work the count. They are given a trip removal if the trip falls on that date. Additionally, for a large count, Whitley Penn, the accounting firm that works withe the NBC, will bring in Temps for the initial part of the day, sorting the envelopes into the bins by control number.

Oh really? Then why have ther been so many voting irregularities that the DOL has been involved? I would be more comcerned ablout the ballots that go to "bad" addresses. Are the returned ballots secure and not picked up until the "good" ballots. How easy would it be to collect the returns, open them, mark the ballot and mail them. Stranger things have happened. Lost ballots seem to be an ongoing problem. There has also been a number of eligible voters who have not received ballots. Yes, replacement ballots have been requested.

I never thought about it. But that is an excellent idea.

yes it is a great idea, but let's not forget, that those elite memebers of the country club called the "APFA" don't care about you, or anyone else when it comes to what they want? No votes turn into yes over night, and reduction in jobs, pay, and benefits happen with the snap of a finger, this is a "Union" we work for the workers, we will take no pay cut ever, and we will always protect your job, no matter where the Orange Juice comes from...Goodluck to all...BTW...Thanks for the pay raise!! in Unity!!

damaj, it already HAS been a proven excellent idea!

Royal, do you have any idea of the costs of just initiating a DFR? Sure, it's possible...

LOL..gathering the information (done and on-going) , filing the complaint with the DOL... If cost becomes an issue, we are pretty talented at fundraising. We have our own financial assistance program (because WINGS doesn't assist those furloughed(at least not those with payroll numbers starting with 6), and ongoing "banks" for needed projects. Just think how with fair representation these efforts could have been directed to the APFA. It is mind boggling to think how much "fun" the APFA could have had with our strong "resolve" working with them.. Another whole side of labor..

What is fair to you my friend could have been a disaster for others.
Look back at what the IAM did to you guys. Why did they decide to give up
all your seniority protections. TWA was going down you had nothing to loose.
You should have had the judge impose it on you rather than agree to it.
You would have a better argument today. But the fact it that the IAM
gave it all up for nothing. Do not blame APFA; blame the IAM. The APFA
was doing what it needed to do at the time which was to protect its member.
Why the IAM chose to just give it all up I do not know. Where are your leaders?
Ask them?
