Dunno. Local revenue is always better than connecting revenue, and the balance should always be close to 50/50 if you want to be profitable. If AA hasn't actually reduced flights, I'm not sure what the problem is.

Looking at average daily seats and departures, none of the hubs have lost flights or seats between 2016 and 2020. Most are up in both.
