Just curious how this could affect the status of any union contracts in place for US East.

So many states are "right to work", it doesn't affect the status of a union contract. It's a condition of employment, so if you refuse to join, you will be terminated.

There are other ways to avoid paying full dues, as previously posted. It's a personal decision if you'd like to be a dues objector, but really not worth the effort/cost savings.

IMHO...

State's Right to Work(For Less) laws don't affect Contracts Under the Federal Law, The Railway Labor Act, as Federal Law supercedes state law.

FYI...CLT is in North Carolina..and the Old North State is a Right to Work State as well.

I'm so glad we are governed by a several decades old law that protects the vital passenger rail road employees, why, if they were to strike, the nation would shut down. (provided it was still 1938)

Virgina, where the old US was based is a right to work state as well. Therefore no changes should be expected.

The railway labor act was enacted in 1926.
