Viet Nam was one of our allies? My research shows that Viet-Nam did not request a bi-lateral defense agreement till Oct of 1961 by which time we had already taken over the fight from the French.
SEATO was born in 1954 with various nations "to prevent the spread of communism". I believe it was born more out of McCarthy type paranoia than legitimate security concerns.
I still want to know what the US was trying to accomplish by fighting in Viet-Nam.
Stopping the spread of communism.....was a big deal back in the day...
North Korea.....South Korea...North Vietnam....South Vietnam.....
Get it now?.....60's thing....was in vogue killing commies.....
'Kill a gook for God' was one rally cry....not saying I agree with that at the moment though.
Now we elect them and nobody knows any better.
