I was referring only to severance for resigning -- Carty and Arpey got zero, as did I.
I didn't answer your question about SERP & added years of service partially because I don't think the issues are all that important, but more because I'm not living night & day on the forums like some people do...
Take a step back from the 2003 debacle, and there's a lot more to Carty's epithet than ever gets mentioned (similar to how Nixon is defined by far more than just Watergate, perhaps?...). Carty spent almost all of his career at AMR when he resigned.
If you glorify the Crandall era, you can't do so without recognizing that Don was Crandall's left hand (Baker being the right hand). He was also the finance genius who helped generate alll the wild profits of the 1980's, brokered the deals that got all the MD80's, 767s and A300's for essentially no cash down & with walkaway leases. It was a brilliant move that brought on all the growth of the mid 80's, and positioned AA to be the #1 carrier for as long as they were.
I personally don't care for how he felt he was better than everyone else (having a chauffeur that he paid for, expecting his secretary to get his lunch almost daily, creating special non-rev policies for his trophy wife and child), but the guy did earn his due as CFO.
That's why I'm not so worried about added years of service -- years of service are negotiated as a trade-off for a higher salary when he re-joined AMR from Canadian, and probably also made up for stuff he was leaving behind in his CP compensation package. Nor am I worried about the SERP. It's a nit compared to all the other issues going on.
As for the filth being spewed by furp... crap like that makes me want to volunteer to be the moderator again.
