This is my first post here and maybe my only, but i was wondering if any seasoned pilots could give me some pointers for a hopeful
career in avation. I'm only 13 and have taken one lesson in a 1980 Cessna 172. I would someday like to fly for a commercial airline,
mostly I am shooting for Delta because I have a lot of my family who works there and they love it. Thanks for reading this post and
please reply with any advice you may have.

Stay in school....major in something that you like and will provide a good carrier Join a Guard unit and have them send you to pilot training then when qualified apply to the majors. With luck you could be ready by 26 or 27 years old.Do not put all your eggs in one basket. It may not work out but you will have fun. Good luck

I think most, as do I, will agree with Metopower. If you want to fly, take mechanical engineering, join rotc , and go for a pilot seat. You should continue your flight lessons at your local airport. If you really want to be a pilot you should be able to achieve your CFI,I ratings. (commercial, flight instructor, instrument) by the time your are eighteen. Here's the deal: you cannot wait until you turn eighteen to decide to go to an aviation college and become a pilot. It would be wiser to spend your parent's money now, spread over a longer period of time, to see if you really are passionate about flying. Flight lessons are very expensive. To be happy, and arguably, successful in aviation, you need passion and drive. Piloting is a difficult and arduous life style that you cannot possibly understand at thirteen. But if you are passionate, when the time comes, you will love it!

If you can enjoy ANYTHING other than being a pilot, do THAT.

Tommy, I would say to you, go for it as most of the others have said, but always have a plan B and C. You are quite young yet so work hard in school and keep your grades up. In a few years the girls will be a distraction, if they aren't already. Ignore them as long as you can cause they will drain your wallet faster then Flight School! Grab some kisses here and there and try to get into the Air Force. You'll get plenty of make-up kisses then and learn to fly cool stuff, if you make the grade! After the Air Force, you should have a shot of working in the crazy airline industry. Who knows, maybe staying in the Air Force would be better. You'll know when you get there. Good Luck to you in your life!
