Atheism

Riiiiight. Left is right, up is down. Gotcha'

Look it up.

Christian socialism generally refers to those on the Christian left whose politics are both Christian and socialist and who see these two philosophies as being interrelated.

Christians being right wing wackos......duh.

I believe at least some of that stuff is from the old testament and s such, is no longer relevant. There has been a revision printed since that came out. The new rules are in the New Testament. Not sure about who wrote the first one and if some of the part in question were a mistake or merely a transcription error. So far it seems they are sticking with the second version.

Doesn't matter. The point is that it all was never relevant in the past, isn't relevant now, and never will be. I don't mind people clinging to childish fantasies, but when you consider that your average Atheist knows more about that stuff than the average christian, it's a little sobering. god is not a nice guy, folks. Don't know why anyone would wish that on our universe...

Hey, I'm on your side. Just presented the argument that has been used on me several times. Religion is just another form of oppressive government as far as I am concerned. They lay out rules regarding a persons lives that is private and one else business. They are general sexist. And they are archaic by today's standards and knowledge.

Some articles I have read seem to indicate that general faith is replacing organized religion. I for one see that as a step in the right direction. I doubt I will live long enough to see the final result but I think eventually man will out grow it's belief in fantasy assuming we do not destroy the planet we live on in the mean time.

I remember someone telling me that in regards to my parents stay at the Hitler Inn for 5 years. I considered a 2x4 to the head but decided that they still would not get it and my going to jail would not solve anything. I just smiled and turned away. There will always be segments of our society that have a tenuous grasp of reality and require the belief in a spiritual being for life to make any sense. They are more than welcome to partake in that endeavor so long as they keep it on private property and out of the public sector. When they try and use my tax dollars to promote their beliefs, that's when I will speak up.

Here's one for you bible guys...

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife.

Exodus 21:7-11

I have a problem with this passage... It does not say what the best way to go about buying a slave girl is, just more about selling. Not very helpful there, god... Let's look up another...

"Go up, my warriors, against the land of Merathaim and against the people of Pekod. Yes, march against Babylon, the land of rebels, a land that I will judge! Pursue, kill, and completely destroy them, as I have commanded you," says the LORD Jeremiah 50:21-22

Pay no attention to that commandment about killing, right? Hmmmm... Let's see what else god helped out with...

From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces. 2 Kings 2:23-24

Sending two she - bears to tear people up... You know, I do believe that happened. Seems god likes that routine, with two she - bears; it certainly explains michelle bachman & sarah "bailin pailin" pretty nicely, doesn't it? Or were they not religious.

I wonder what else the book we're all supposed to be living by has to say about anything...

"God made bad people for the pleasure of punishing them." Proverbs 16:4

Phew... Good to know we're all created in the image of sadistic psychopath.

"Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it."
Malachi 2:3

Alright god, just because someone did that to you one time....

"You cannot be Jesus's disciple unless you hate your mother, father, and family" Luke 14:26

I'm guessing this is the part where we see that maybe the jews weren't so chosen after all?

"Men are holy if they stay away from women" I Samuel 21:4-5

I guess the christians have it all wrong then. Straight marriage seems to be the problem.

Those are more entertaining than anything else, but it's the overlying themes of the bible that destroy the whole concept. Command humans to be celibate before marriage... while knocking up a virgin. Almighty and omnipresent... but needs 10% of your cash... Demand that humans embrace forgiveness as a concept... while sending people to endure eternal hellfire for not having heard of his "omnipresent" self.

I have always wondered how any thinking person can take the bible or its collection of silly gods all that seriously. If that makes me an athiest, I guess that's the way it is. Better to be that than believe myself to be at the mercy of something all powerful and with the temperment of a spoiled five year old.

I agree 100%. Freedom of religion also means freedom from religion.

I agree 100%. Freedom of religion also means freedom from religion.

That point of view has not been universally upheld in the courts. The key is how one interprets the Establishment clause. I don't think anyone disputes that the COTUS is crystal clear that we are never to be a theocracy along the lines of Iran. No state sanctioned religion was one thing the Founding Fathers all agreed upon. Which is not that surprising considering that most of them were fleeing the tyranny of the Church of England.

The challenge comes when we as a nation try to draw the line between Freedom of Religion versus Freedom from Religion. Frankly the courts have been little help in arriving at a clear cut line between the two.

No one can really dispute that our laws and society are based largely upon basic Judeo-Christian precepts. But does that mean we teach the Bible in School as the inspired word of God? I don't think it does. Does it prevent the teacher and class from decorating a Christmas Tree? I don't think it should.

Don't tell that to the American Taliban.

Good point Dog......looks more and more like the state approved religion of choice now is Islam.

And Holy moley...if you Atheist....boy you in a heap a trouble.....

Remember, Obama said we are not a Christian nation.
