Atheism

I must admit that I never heard about the 6000 year creationism/young earth theory until this thread.
It was never taught in the churches/studies I attended (and I've attended many variations), and I mostly read the New Testament.

It is interesting to note that there is not one link to a church (that I found) teaching this but a debate amongst 'everyone else' on it's merit tracing Old Testament Biblical Genealogy. Even many of these 'calculators' do not agree with their own conclusions.

But then again, the world ended last Saturday on the 21st of May, 2011... :lol:

Makes one think of the fake GW info........remember the hockey stick you liked so much?

Religion depends much upon faith and archeology offers proof that the written word was correct. Not always, but religion has to change when evidence is there contradicting it. What you speak of was in the early days of scientific development. There was nothing other than religion to offer explanation, but that changed and science and religion adapted. So whats your point?
I don't remember a sermon on a flat earth or 6000 year old planet ever.....except back in Galileo's day.....maybe you ought to go to a sermon and see for your self its changed a little since the days of Galileo and Copernicus.

Yes! Sorry I missed your post... B)

You do know you are arguing with someone who considers afterlife to be reduced from a significant event to simply food for maggots.

“God, I don‘t know if you’re real or not, but if you are there, please let my mother win a million dollars,” he cynically implored in the casino.
“It was off the cuff at the slot machines,” Sal said. “If Jesus wants me to believe in him, that‘s what he’ll do.”

Oh good grief. Like a god is going to restore someones faith with money? Seriously? What kind of idiots would believe this?

God and the Lotto. Seriously?

Who are you to question ANYONE'S Belief's? Since you have none what experience do you have with a religion that would allow you credibility in speaking on the veracity of the young man's moment of enlightenment?

Don't you have to go worship the Supreme Leader of the Peoples Democratic Republic of Barackistan, aka The Empty Suit? aka Obama? Isn't this your Prayer?

The government is my shepherd:
I need not work.
It alloweth me to lie down on a good job;
It leadeth me beside still factories;
It destroyeth my initiative.
It leadeth me in a path of a parasite for politic's sake;
Yea though I walk through the valley of laziness and deficit-spending,
I will fear no evil, for the government is with me.
It prepareth an economic Utopia for me, by appropriating the earnings of my own grandchildren.
It filleth my head with false security;
My inefficiency runneth over.
Surely the government should care for me all the days of my life,
And I shall dwell in a fool’s paradise forever.

"When was the last time you heard someone say, 'The help here is way too slow and incompetent. Why don't they hire some civil servants?'"

Really? Have you read many of your posts? Plenty. I have experienced and examined it and have not found any use for it.

So you believe god is going to try and restore someones faith with a million dollar lotto ticket while letting children starve to death every day? That is a sick and twisted POV. Even the lady in the video said that god foes not work that way. You get what you need ..... A million dollar lotto ticket is the work of god? You have got to be kidding me.

Pastor Wins Battle to Cite Jesus in Memorial Day Prayer

Saturday, 28 May 2011 04:14 PM

The Department of Veterans Affairs cannot bar a Houston pastor from invoking Jesus Christ in a Memorial Day prayer, a federal judge ruled in a case that is yet another illustration of anti-Christian animus in the country.

U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes told the department it was “forbidden from dictating the content of speeches – whether those speeches are denominated prayers or otherwise – at the Memorial Memorial Day, Prayer, Christianity, Scott RaineyDay ceremony of National Cemetery Council for Greater Houston.”

“The government cannot gag citizens when it says it is in the interest of national security, and it cannot do it in some bureaucrat’s notion of cultural homogeneity,” the judge wrote. “The right of free expression ranges from the dignity of Abraham Lincoln’s speeches to Charlie Sheen’s rants.”

In his order, the judge noted that the Rev. Scott Rainey, the lead pastor of the Living Word Church of the Nazarene, was likely to prevail on his claims should the case reach trial.

“The Constitution does not confide to the government the authority to compel emptiness in a prayer, where a prayer belongs,” he said. “The gray mandarins of the national government are decreeing how citizens honor their veterans. This is not a pick-up-your-trash sign; this is a we-pick-your-words sign.”

The case was brought on Rainey’s behalf by Texas’ Liberty Institute, a non-profit devoted to protecting freedoms and strengthening families.

Setting aside the legality issue for a moment. Can you explain to me why people of faith feel compelled to proclaim their faith publicly? What is preventing people from exercising their faith in private?

You seem to have no difficulty proclaiming your lack of faith publicly as this is a public forum. So I fail to see the difference. The judges ruling was pretty clear cut and it's not the first one either. Courts are starting to revisit the original intent of the Founding Fathers as it applies to the separation of Church and state.

Since atheists, by their own admission are not organized & do not believe in one of the key elements of religion i.e. the existence of God. One could reasonably argue that someone with no religion would have no standing in a legal proceeding over the separation of church & state.

Did you miss the part about this being a discussion forum?

One could argue that the world is flat? Given the fact that we are citizens of the US and pay taxes we have standing to contest anything that takes part or has anything to do with the public domain which is supported by our taxes. I would have expected you to have a better understanding of US law.

So again I will ask. Why do people of faith feel compelled to display and proclaim their religion in public rather than in a private setting?

If rights are conferred by our "Creator" if you have no belief in a creator how can you expect to have rights conferred to you by an entity that in your philosophy doesn't exist?

Courts determine who has standing and being a US citizen or even illegal immigrant doesn't in and of itself guarantee you standing in every legal matter before a court.

It appears to me that you hate Christians for more than I hate Gays. Ever think for a minute that if you stopped the non stop Christian hating that more might be receptive to your Homo Promo Agenda. Because I'll be honest with ya, I have had quite enough of your Hateful attitude and speech toward Christians. So until you respect my faith I'll reserve my support for Gay Marriage.

You want respect and "rights" from those who don't feel as you do then try extending that same courtesy. I do so love the courts ruling over prayer. Only during the Empty Suit Regime would the VA attempt to control a pastors God given right to speak freely at a public gathering. Gotta love the arrogance of a government run amok.

I do not. My rights are conferred by the government and they an be taken away by that same government. Your god given rights can and are infringed upon by government everyday. Saying your rights are conferred by some invisible hand does nothing to guarantee anyones rights.

I did not say every legal matter. How ever if I pay taxes for it, that pretty much covers most issues.

Really? Saying does not make it so. Perhaps you can point out these hateful things I have said about Christians? About certain religious organizations yes. Now if you are talking about me wanting people of faith to keep their religion out of the public sector and to practice it in the privacy of their ow home then I am guilty as charged. I could honestly care less what you say about or think about gays, blacks or anything else. I am only concerned about equal rights for everyone. The same thing you profess to believe but seem to be incapable of actually supporting. Demanding respect for your faith before respecting the idea of gay marriage clearly shows you do not believe in equality for all. That is like me saying I will not support the KKK's right to assemble till they respect jews or blacks. The COTUS is not a quid pro quo document.

Give me a single example where Christians rights are deprived? Ah, so I gather you would support a Wicca or Satanic worshiper from speaking at this VA gathering? Religion does not belong in a public event IMO. The vets being honored are not all christian. Some were jews, hindu, musilm, agnostic, atheist to name a few. Why do your religion get to pick the rules? OH yea, remember the out cry when a cleric made a prayer in Congress? People like you #### and moan about freedom religion only when you are being asked to keep out of the private sector but let it happen to different religion and you are whoa fully quiet.

The VA is a public tax funded entity. A pastor has no business any where near it in an official capacity.
