Presbyterians to combat hunger with every home run by Pirates

While the Pirates' new success is raising summertime spirits in Pittsburgh, it will also help to fight hunger through a campaign organized by Pittsburgh Presbytery and Presbyterian Media Mission.

For every Pirate home run through the end of this season, congregations in Pittsburgh Presbytery are pledging to donate $100 to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The program launches at tonight's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, which happens to be Pittsburgh Presbytery Night at PNC Park.

They'll probably starve though....

Your heathen brethren into any deeds like that?

"While we celebrate this day, we also know that minds and hearts need time and clarity to understand issues that divide us. We pray for God's guidance, humbly seeking to be united in our common purpose -- to live and proclaim the good news of the gospel.

"Standards for ordained service reflect the church's desire to submit joyfully to the Lord Jesus Christ in all aspects of life. ... Governing bodies shall be guided by scripture and the confessions in applying standards to individual candidates."

Catch-22:

"And if a man lie with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

So back to the original discourse.....these Jesuit gay huggers are offering food for humanity, does the other side do similar deeds?

My sister is running a auction in CA where all the proceeds will go to the local food bank. Small town and they expect to raise about $20k.

Dont most cities run local food banks and shelters? I belive they are substantially larger than most religious funded ones. Plus they help everyone not just those who agree with them.

Did Christianity change and now condones homosexuality? I am guessing not. As Tell pointed out they do not. Religion is not a la cart. You take the whole or you take nothing.

Duh............progressive holy rollers dude..... 😛

I bow to your empirical data (NOT). How can you 'believe' in fairy tales? 😛

Why do you ask me? Ask them. I am not a presbyterian. Maybe they rewrote the bible like the mormans did.
Go to a service and ask them, I haven't a clue.
😱

It was a rhetorical question. If they re-wrote the bible then it is not the bible anymore, at least not in the what Christians see it. They are picking and choosing the stuff they like which is fine if that's what they want to do. Christians have been doing that for quite a while. They pretty much ignore the old testament. Not like we see adulterers being put to death as of late.

How would you know? IIRC, you are an atheist, how is it all you atheists know what Christians believe even better than Christians?

They who? Christians? All Christians? Or 'self proclaimed Christians'?
Jim Jones was a 'self proclaimed Christian', do all Christians follow his tenants?
You paint with a broad brush on something you have no clue.

Not like we see adulterers being put to death as of late.

Not in this country, yet... But given liberal apologists for not offending 'Islamofascism' look to a stoning in your neighborhood soon. 😱 😱 😱

Let me guess, you have no opinion on abortion right? Really? I'm not a astronaut but I have read up on it quite a bit. Not a doctor but I read up on the stuff that my doctor tells me. I have no idea why many Christians do not know their own religion. Perhaps they just like to call them selves that with out any real knowledge of what it entails.

Are you actually arguing that the Presbyterians can up date the bible at will? Correct me if I'm wrong but the bible is the word of God. I would think any revisions would have to come from the author but hey, I'm not a believer so don't take my word for it. So did the Presbyterians get it right? Who is going to tell the pope?

"They" being the Presbyterians who YOU brought up. Not sure what you are painting with.

I was referring to the the old testament (bible 1.0) where that and other things are mentioned. Seems most have discarded Bible 1.0 and moved on to the New Testament (bible 2.0) figuring that 1.0 no longer applies, except where they want it to apply. This is so confusing for us non-believers. You would think an omniscient being would be able to get it right the first time.

I would not worry about stoning. I am sure the right wing Christian mobs will run any 'outsiders' out of your quaint little neighborhood.

Going back to your original list which started this thread, the People's Republic of China may yet have the last say and the last laugh. They are now building our bridges and I understand there are more U.S. dollars in China than in the USA.

Ms Tree

I once read that had the Big Bang taken place with any less energy, on the order of a fraction of a percentage, the known universe would have collapsed in on itself after the first few billion years. Conversely, had the BB exerted any more force, by a fraction of a percentage, the universe would be no more than a diffuse soup today. Makes you wonder.

The more interesting question isn't how it happened - but why. Scientific cause-and-effect doesn't apply to the original cause.

One thing's for sure, the older I get, the less I know.
