The recent "Events" are causing travelers to "check-in" ALL their luggage(usually 3-4 pieces)

This will now create a "Thanksgiving/Xmas week" scenario, on an EVERYDAY basis.

Agents; How is this affecting you for, FORCED OT, SK calls or IOD's ???

FSC's; How much OT is being "Offered", or FORCED.
How about SK time, or ID's ???

Hey Bear, read before you leap.

HSD and TSA are not banning carry on luggage. They are banning liqiuids and jels.
Just pop your shaving/make-up kit into your checked luggage and you don't have a problem.

Yesterday I noticed a substantial amount of small bags checked as baggage that otherwise would have been carried on board.

When I left work at midnight still had flights coming in and leaving late. Lots of part timers forced to stay beyond their shift.

BTW I work at LAX

Lots and lots of bags checked in three and four hours early for all the DFW trips today. And of course the TSAholes aren't bothering to relatch or zip bags closed once they've gone through them and as a result we're having bags bursting open as they come down the chute onto the pier.

As far as OT goes, we got one guy...AFTER we had been hammered into last week with bags. All the P/T'ers in the outbound skated after their four were up, no one bothered to extend them.

I arrived at JFK T8 from CDG on AA45 last Friday. There were very long INS lines and it took over 30" to clear. When I got down to baggage claim, there was only one one carousel with three "U" bends. The belt was full of bags and there were baggage handlers pulling them off at both of the first two of the "U".

The four spaces between and on either end were chock full of bags from many flights. Thus everyone was milling around looking for their luggage. Bags with #45 were in all four locations and also still coming on the belt. I finally found mine at the very last point it could have been pulled off before the belt went back inside.

I was sitting up front so I was one of the first off my flight and through INS. Obviously my bag with a Priority tag (for what that might be worth) was one of the first off.

Of course I was aware that there were practically nothing carried on. I myself decided against the hassle of trying to get my 22" rollaboard as carry-on. I had to fight at check-in to even retain possession of a briefbag with my computer. They wanted me to carry the computer on in a clear plastic bag (which others did).

The point of this rambling post is that it appears to me there can no possible reduction in baggage handlers on either end of flights. I have no need for liquids, gels or pastes in my carry-on. So, if I can - I will, carry-on. But obviously from my observations and from reports in the press, checked luggage will increase tremendously on domestic flights. And it has and will continue to increase exponentially on international flights.

I haven't arrived at AA JFK since T9 opened. And I realize that T8 will be razed.

■ Is there an international arrivals area at T9?
■ If so, is it usual for trans-Atlantic to still arrive at T8?
■ Isn't the baggage claim area in T8 now smaller with only one carousel?

I look forward to comments on the manning levels in view of the carry-on restrictions and on the JFK questions.

There will be an international arrivals area at JFK, but it's not open yet, so yes, it's quite normal for all flights to be arriving at T-8.

Having worked the T-8 customs hall in the past, it has always been a zoo, and always been undersized for the volume of traffic moving thru it. The new facility should be a lot nicer. In fact, if you arrive at T-9 and take the exit thru the baggage claim, I believe you are in the future customs hall.

I can say this...

With the new ban on liquids and other things, it's been a breeze for boarding! Lots of overhead bins are empty and we the flight attendants are loving every minute of it!!
