AWA + USAir = Total Mistake

Yep America West should have allowed Continental to buy you. Oh, wait they didn't want you. Neither did Northwest or Delta or American. United had a passing facination, but decided to focus on their success instead of running an airline day-care. Yep US thinks it could have become a powerhouse on it's own. 2 consecutive BK's, but like the hopping torso of Monty Python's knight , "It's just a flesh wound!" It would be funnier as fiction.

US was unique though in figuring out how to screw up a franchise that had the potential to all but print money. They dominated the highest yielding markets in the country, yet were unable to have the foresight to keep themselves out of BK.

Twice.

Now they take a similar opportunity to regain their strength as part of a successful airline with mangement that has arguably dealt WN their biggest black eye in their history, yet the US'rs prefer to look back at what they lost or could possibly lose rather than capitalize on what they have. And they will blame management for all the pain that comes from that strategy. Same tattered US playbook.

Yeah, I agree there are two very different philosophies, and only one leads to success.

Luvn737's.....Thank you for totally summing up the situation!!! US'ers always have had a tendancy of eating their young, guess that habit is back.
The sheer amount of gaul of many posters here is laughable. Hopefully they will just leave/retire or find some other carrier to drive nuts with rediculous "elite" illusions of grandeur. UGH!!

Hmmm what did we make again this quarter? and the sad part is we made that much money with our operations running badly .

For an airline this size, that was nothing. Remember, it was the east operation that carried this airline. Say what you will, USAir employees were held to a very high standard. Yup, we had raiders come in and for their own personal gain began the downward spiral, but your boy DoUgie has put the nail in the coffin! Nice Job!

I agree with your thread title - This is one of Doug's bigger mistakes. He should have waited for US liquidation and picked pieces in a prearranged BK deal. We wouldn't be in the mess we are in now. The sigh of relief and appreciation for AWA when the merger was announced has since turned into the typical east employee hostility. This is where I think Doug underestimated, what turns out to be an impossible task, the work and money required to transform the most disgruntled employees in the industry to a workforce capable of running an airline with good customer service.

West employees have been pioneers and innovators, taking a post deregulated airline and building it into a major airline - something that has not been accomplished by any other airline, period. Those are the facts!

We know how to compete with the likes of Southwest and make money doing it. Again, something most major carriers have not figured out how to do. So I ask, who is the real survivor here…AWA all the way. Those are the facts!

Two different philosophies. USAir: legacy airline, top awards, long term exceedingly well trained/knowledgeable and well paid employees. America West: regional airline, revolving employment door, no indepth training, management who is in way over their heads.

sky high states: Was that, before or after AWA BANKRUPTCY? 🙄

only stating opinions

Pioneers as far as consistently being the worst airline out there for years. THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL...CONSISTENTLY. Parker is sitting on f###ing gold mine and is too stupid to talk to the employees of a legacy carrier on how to run the operation. Before the money started walking out the door...hundreds of millions of dollars...this was a top notch operation, barring ATC delays on the east. So please, save it. You haven't really been around long enough to form an educated opinion.

Listen here all you wet behind the ears 5 year agents. Most of our employee's on the east have been working for
Us longer then HP has been in business. when Hp started we have employee's that have already been working
for 10 years for US. I was always taught to listen to your elders WHY, because they know more
it is called experience, in which some of you do not have. I will repeat myself US when it was US we were ranked in the top 6 in customer satisfaction and Hp has always been on the bottom.

Hp management takes over and look at where we are at, if you don't remember just go and look at the DOT files.

It all comes down to this, the Hp Management think thay can do this on thier own but as the other person said in thier tread this management is way over thier heads. Whats the matter on asking your senior agts to make suggestions
on how to run this company better, well its called PRIDE , I'm the BOSS. Here is a great example on how stupid
the Hp mangement team is, they have a 27 year old child with 6 years of experience running a major hub ( hey Phx come out and see waht a real hub is) and the only hub that makes mega bucks for this company, heck I have more years as a supervisor then his has experience, what the heck is wrong with this picture. Dougie take a snapshot
and stare at maybe you'll see what I'm talking about.

This company disgusts me on how they steal the customers money and say they are providing a product.
We don't have a product it is crap!!!!!!

And the BOD's are a bunch of idiots also because thay can not see what is going on..

I hate to say this but I wish Ua would purchase the east that way we can see Dougie and his west can go down
with the ship.......................

And remember the only other reason that this company is making money is because the amount of money the east
folks gave back, so you westies you should be thanking all those US folks that gave up so much for you and
get this, it's a pretty big one, all you westies took a pay raise at merger time, so you got a raise and we got
your stupid policies and inexperienced management.

Are you talking about that top notch airline that was weeks away from liquidation and the only airline that ranked below AWA consistently? What about the PHL fiasco over Christmas one year. Was that the top notch airline you are talking about? Oh, and Metro was such a success. What happened to PIT, before the merger? I could go on and on, and anything you say about AWA pales in comparison. Why don’t you wake up and face reality. US Airways was the armpit of the industry filled with the most arrogant, disgruntled employees in the history of aviation.

I’ve been here longer than you think.

Posted edited by moderator. Another comment like the one taken out will get you time off. That was uncalled for here.

Then why has the West side of the operation consistently lost money both before and after the merger?
