No synergy one and a half years later. The only reason there is any profit at all because all the debt was wiped out and replaced with new equity that is on its way to zero. Labor is pissed, customers are pissed, service levels are in the crapper, battling labor groups prevent integration. LCC has zero chance to succeed, and I predict it will be split into pieces, or bankrupt again in the following 18 months. Parker is failure at everything but beer pong and lining his own pockets with other peoples hard earned cash.

Two different philosophies. USAir: legacy airline, top awards, long term exceedingly well trained/knowledgeable and well paid employees. America West: regional airline, revolving employment door, no indepth training, management who is in way over their heads.

I think your post sums it up!!!!

Yep America West should have allowed Continental to buy you. Oh, wait they didn't want you. Neither did Northwest or Delta or American. United had a passing facination, but decided to focus on their success instead of running an airline day-care. Yep US thinks it could have become a powerhouse on it's own. 2 consecutive BK's, but like the hopping torso of Monty Python's knight , "It's just a flesh wound!" It would be funnier as fiction.

US was unique though in figuring out how to screw up a franchise that had the potential to all but print money. They dominated the highest yielding markets in the country, yet were unable to have the foresight to keep themselves out of BK.

Twice.

Now they take a similar opportunity to regain their strength as part of a successful airline with mangement that has arguably dealt WN their biggest black eye in their history, yet the US'rs prefer to look back at what they lost or could possibly lose rather than capitalize on what they have. And they will blame management for all the pain that comes from that strategy. Same tattered US playbook.

Yeah, I agree there are two very different philosophies, and only one leads to success.

Well no matter how well intentioned you have to admit Shares may have worked out west but is not working on the east or for the international area. And someone appears to be in over their heads with a hub and spoke operation. I had hoped this would be well on the way to a smooth operation by now and am sick watching it collapse on a nearly daily basis.

The tenacity of the management team was proven when February 1983 rolled around. Financing finally became available for startup airlines, partially due to the success of PEOPLExpress, and $18.75 million was raised through an Initial Public Offering.

A combination of ideas were used in the formation of America West. Cross-utilization of employees, brought to new extremes by PEOPLExpress, would be a major feature of America West.

For those of you who remember and were involved with the PEOPLExpress era I am seeing similarities

America West was a nose hair away from bk. They furloughed employees and they were the cheapest airline towards the customer and the employee as cheap as cheap can get. Our east employees pulled the airline out of bancruptcy and we gave big on concessions, that you took from us during profit sharing this year.

Shares is the mentality of the west. That is not saying too much for you guys. It is a brainless , stupid computer system.

Maybe but there is one hell of a distance between in twice bankrupt looking at liquidation and a poss BK. For the record we were hiring and expanding when the life line was tossed. We gave you our attrition!!!!!!! 😉

You have never and will never be in the same league USAir was. Yes it is true there were 2 BK, but even in our darkest hour, NEVER did we run an operation like the one that is being run today. It was business as usual and we took care of our pax and still had stellar on board service.
