America West's first pilot leaves US Airways

Randy McNerlin, one of the most-senior pilots at US Airways, flew his last flight for the carrier last week. The Arizona Republic writes that "McNerlin, the pilot who many consider to be America West's first, retired Friday the day before his 60th birthday. Federal law restricts pilots age 60 and older from flying commercially." The Republic notes that the reverse side of McNerlin's employee badge reads "P0001," the low number a testimony to his longevity at the company. The Republic says "pilot numbers at US Airways, which merged with America West in 2005, now extend to more than 3,000. But for 24 years and three weeks, McNerlin held onto the most senior number."

McNerlin tells the Republic that he's flown more than 20,500 hours during his 24-year career at America West and US Airways. The paper says that during Operation Desert Storm, McNerlin flew U.S. troops into Kuwait on an America West Boeing 747. On that flight, McNerlin says he could not resist calling America West's president at the time, saying: "Remember when you said we'd never go east of the Mississippi River? Well, we just crossed the Nile." The Republic says McNerlin plans to work for an Indian carrier before retiring for good.

Junior in the east.

I bet you Westies are real proud of this guy. Like I said, AWA started with scabs and scabed again in the late 80s. How many scabs do you still have flying? Will they get a party when they retire? Why isnt there a list out? Is it that you Westies just dont care? What a joke.

Ranny Mac was a great guy and wasn't a scab. It's because of guys like him that kept this place going. Wanna know what's funny? Your easties including your MEC saying how concern you are because the west doesn't have as much experience in the left seat as the east does. Ha! that rich. We have lots of 20-24 year capts. like the ol mac daddy was. How many 20+ yr. capts does the east have?

You guys need to get a life.

About as many 20+ year Captains as West has total pilots!

East just doesn't have too many 8 year Captains....

Randy is listed under a google available "Scab List by Name" as scabbing for WAA, Wien Airlines. DOB 23 June 1947.

I am absolutely certain Randy was a "nice" guy. He pulled off a scam and leveraged himself to a number one position at A&W for 24 years. Why would he have any concerns, at that point? Why is it, simply by labeling someone as "nice", trumps all sorts of bad behavior. Let me put it this way. You cannot trust him to watch your back, he effed up in a way that should forever condemn him as untrustworthy, yet, ignorant people continue to defend these morons.

OBTW, almost every Capt. at US has 20+ years in the left seat or ability to bid the left seat the entire time.

All of them plus all of the FO's that were captains before getting downgraded and furloughed.

Enough of this the East guys are !!@** and the West guys are !@#. Those of you who are ranting (East and West) are presenting a mentally diseased distortion of what the rational line pilot thinks (East and West).

But the West has no rational line pilot! (joke)

I don't suppose we could just wish him well like gentlemen, could we?

You see that is the problem. Was he a gentlemen when he scabbed and took another pilots job? I cannot believe you think we should wish him luck. F&^k him. Maybe you guys think its okay to scab?
