Awful QUIET in the desert

I just KNEW that this would be the tone of the first reply from what I wrote coming from an arrogant, entitled, know-it-all Eastie! I considered not posting it at all because our entire crew was surprised to hear first hand this information and be privvy to such specific information. We even joked later if anyone served Scott too many minis or if he had been in the airport bar before the flight. Loose lips sink ships!

Now when I say Philly is going "bye-bye" I did not mean dismantled (maybe you were the one under the rock the day God gave out brains!).

< leaving out the innuendos >

We were told, I am not kidding, that Philadelphia is being sold to UAL and the rest of the company was going to merge with NWA.

I am just telling you what we heard, first hand, from Scott Kirby yesterday enroute from ORD to PHX. Oh, by the way, because he rebooked to an earlier flight back to PHX, he was assigned a crummy middle seat for the flight home. Poetic justice  If Scott Kirby is fired for sharing this information with us....well even MORE poetic justice!!  I am only writing here what we were told, nothing more, nothing less. If you have a problem with that nycusdriver then pop a blood vessel to your brain and put yourself out of commission permanently. Poetic justice to the max!!

Now, I never said I believed it (I don't believe anything I hear around the workplace...even from the President of the company)!! Once I get my information from the Press or see it on an official company release, then I will accept it as gospel.

That proposal that UAL wants PHL but NW does not, really doesn't make sense to me. You'd think that NW would want PHL and PHX, but less interested in CLT. Why would UAL want PHL when it has IAD? Honestly, I'd think that dismantling PHL then selling it, might make more sense, since the operation, as is, doesn't seem to be an attractive buy.

While not a true PHL supporter here, I can't see PHL going anywhere. Though it's a headache and a true pain in the a$$ it's big for US. Why would UA want it while they have IAD right down the road? THAT couldn't be due to to DOJ issues I'm sure. I bet Scott said what he did JUST to see if it wound up on here. He's probably already read this at home and cracking up over a cocktail. 🙄

I;m not trying to be rude here but I'm just curious why Scott Kirby would decide to divulge such information to you? re you close friends or was he drinking? It seems rather unprofessional to talk about this with a crew (no offense) on an airplane

If he divulged any information about possible mergers or asset sales he would be in violation of SEC regulations and would be charged.

Remember Martha Stewart ordeal? I can't imagine Scott Kirby was this stupid. Maybe blowing smoke up your skirt. If this is true and happens 700 is right. The SEC will nail him. The stock implications alone would be astounding. Something is up but I think it's smoke and mirrors right now. And wasn't it NW that wanted PHL so bad in the past? Anyone else remember when they made it clear they only wanted the PHL O/D market from US?

I could not agree with you more. Close friends? No. Drinking? None that we were aware of. Was the information we were told as if we were having some kind of "fireside chat" unexpected and unprofessional? Absolutely.

I am only repeating what was heard by our crew. We even asked ourselves later, "why was he telling US about these things??" Do like we did and take it with a grain of salt until more is revealed (although we were taken aback about the possibility of a merger with NWA and how that would make this last merger look like a cakewalk!).

Could anyone be that stupid to release that kind of information?? Oh, forget it.. I forgot who we were talking about..if it is true, his ass belongs to the SEC.

Well true. I meant anyone with even one brain cell could figure that out. The BOD if it's true should be in Emergency session right now. LOL

Has anyone considered that the misinformation might have been an attempt to spread a rumor to influence stock prices in the short term ?

i highly doubt PHL is going to be sold , why would they send 17 mangers to try and fix things if our company was simply going to pass the buck .

Are we hiring 13 year old teenage girls now? Because all of the phrases used in this so called "well informed" person's post is the same as I hear from adolescents chatting up their friends on their cell the minute we land.....

Especially like the disclaimer.....we should believe it because this poster is quoting valuable and valid information verbatim from the Company President.....but "Now I never said I believed it". How astute of you!

A completly juvenile posting from beginning to end dreamed up by bored individuals in the Hot Room....

The idea of the president standing in a galley speculating about M&A activity is pretty absurd. I do have to say though, from my own personal experiences, it's surprising how candid some people can be. I remember having the VP of international something or other on my flight years ago, friendly guy. He sat and showed me the company's Carribbean expansion plans, talked about Latin America, possible European cities. I thought it was cool that he was so willing to chat with a stew and share positive possibilities for the company. All the stuff he was showing me ended up happening. So you never know- it depends on the way stuff is said and whether or not its on record.

Interesting speculation all the same. Again, United is in heat and wants to mate, and US is always up for it. NW not so sure. General consensus is that UAL is interested mainly in CLT and the east coast operation. NWA has shown interest in PHL before, and the West ops are much more attractive to NWA than UAL. Of course, if our side runs the show, they are all about eliminating redundancy, which an as-is USUA provides alot of opportunity for in all areas. Not as much as USDL would have but still quite alot.

I agree that corporate officials can be candid, but I am willing to bet that you asked intelligent questions of the gentleman that was on your flight that led him to have a business discussion with you. Also those were more stable times.

I agree that these things are a possiblity, anything is at this point in the industry. But this scenario as described by this "OMG I am NOT Kidding" F/A is plain sensationalism.

Kirby also got on planes out west saying the Delta deal was "done" and was happening. Take it all with a grain of salt.
