BA/AA another step closer

While an alliance between the two (AA/BA) big kids on the block may have good consequences (for a while, at least), what would anyone reckon the chances of a strategic Chapter 11 filing by American would be and that such a filing (or threat of a filing) would be enough to prod Congress into raising the limit on foreign ownership of USA airlines from what it is now?

The Washington crew will be back later on in the year and will still have to decide what happens with the DL/NWA merger plans and a few other things that those nasty democrats would get in the way of.

This may well be an issue for them to tackle while they're at it.

Don't you really mean "God forbid either one gets elected?" Neither will do anything to benefit the majority of voters.

Electing politicians is like choosing soap. They all promise the world, but at the end, they're just soap.


Bears, I don't think a strategic filing is going to convince anyone to raise foreign ownership caps.

Nor do I think that whoever is elected really matters. There's probably a little too much xenophobia on the right, and the left is too concerned about the impact foreign ownership would have on union jobs. Meanwhile, the airlines from countries who have given up on their opposition to foreign ownership limits flourish (AF, KL, LH) while those from countries who oppose it languish (AZ, OA, and all of the US carriers).

Well Goose, your right on a Number of "combinations"

As for NW/DL,......I have a VESTED INTEREST to PRAY, that.....that gets shot down(by EL-CHIMPO), but I fear it won't happen.

And IF DL/NW go's through,........I'm very confident that Anti-trust will will go through for AA/BA(which is a positive thing)

As to foreign ownership,(Including a "cooked up" BK by AA/BA,), by the time "that bad boy" got around to being ruled upon, there will be a "new Sheriff" @ "1600"(his Initials WONT be ..j..McC), and the likelihood then of foreign ownership would be ZERO !!!!!!!!!

Now Goose, if the results from "above" take much Different twists,.............then Obviously "All bets are off"

As ALWAYS,...............Time will tell !
