Bankruptcy no 3?

Who knows, fuel could be $30 per barrel by April 25th?

Or, more likely, $130 per barrel.

Unless scientists manage to invent cold fusion, we will never again see $30 per barrel oil.

If they do invent cold fusion, the Middle East will quickly see lots of empty Mercedes, Bentleys, Rolls Royces and Lexus being traded in for camels.

I don't see any airlines filing bankruptcy this year. They all seem to be doing the right things, including US Airways (could be better). Honestly, if the management isn't totally asleep at the wheel (and it probably isnt even though everyone thinks it is), profitability is all one big equation of cost of goods, labor, supply and demand, etc. All of the airlines are creating demand by cutting flights back. This should cause the prices to increase (and it is). As long as the oil prices stabilize and give the airlines a chance to catch up, they'll get through it.

The latest estimate from Merrill Lynch for US is yearly profit of $19 million with oil at $95/barrel, while it forecasts a yearly loss of $41 million or $160 million with oil at $100 and $110/barrel respectively (They estimated a profit of $259 million at $75/barrel aren't likely to see oil to return to those levels anytime soon).

As for the other airlines:

At $95/barrel: AS, NW, G4, WN, and US are all profitable
At and above $100/barrel: Only WN and G4 are profitable

WNs profit decreases only $50 million as oil rises from $75 to $110, indicating a substantial portion of their fuel is hedged for the year.

It certainly isn't shaping up to be a good year for the airlines, but it won't be bad enough to see any major airline file for bankruptcy. IMO, these higher oil prices will in the long run lead to a tougher road for several of the low fare airlines (WN excluded) that already have plans to increase capacity and will either be forced to A) Find profitable routes for these planes to fly or B) Continue to sell older a/c. They also have less assets to play around with than several of the major carriers do.

I just hope Doug Parker finally wakes up out of his coma and wants to start working for US Airways, and not against US!? Please be honest about the whole issue, either you want this airline to succeed, or you are going to sell US, or drive the place in the ground?????! Just stand up for once, and tell us the truth.

Just vote NO! The wind is slowly dying down, hey!

One can only hope that this joke goes bankrupt and is liquidated. It is frightening to think that this company would be one of the ones to survive and "set the standard" for air travel in the US going forward.

No offense - but it would be a happy day if this sorry state of affairs was liquidated - premium wine and all - and none too soon!

Hey I'm really sorry your drinking your wine out of a plastic cup, I really am, and I know US has many many problems.

But many people are tied to this place and to wish unemployment of them, and the resulting destruction of lives, with foreclosures and all that goes with it is really rotten. If you hate this place so much, please go elsewhere, we really do understand. Its hard enough right now to pay my bills as it is, and I really dont need some cheerleader wishing my demise.

 Total offense taken.
We may whine and complain about our operation but it's our airline to pick on. Kind of like you can say what you want about your own family but noone else can.

I don't know what rock you've been under but:
1- we're back to number 1 on-time
2- the aircraft interiors are cleaner and in better repair
3- we're doing better than almost everybody else financially
4- upgrades to our terminals and boarding areas are underway
5- new crew computer system and crew tracking software will be making our trips better and RON hotels are getting better (east)
6- even PHL is operationally a lot better and the attitudes seem to be getting better!

No, I am not a manager- just a line pilot, but I do get to see the whole system. We have a ways to go but we are trending in the right direction. Go spread your doom and gloom elsewhere, frankly I'm sick and tired of hearing the same old thing. If you're not happy here don't let the door hit you on your way out...

Good then! Since you claim you are not a manager; then you are a messnger....when can labor expect improvements to their contracts since everyone is currently in "joint negotiations" and since the airline is doing financially better than "everyone else"...

Oh, btw, how are the investors feeling these days? The LCC stock price is not reflecting your sentiment...

That is why I love you USAir people. You have much attitude. When flying USAir, it is like dealing with real people. Not a fake Deltalina person. I love how US Airways is not superficial

Oh we got 50 passengers headed to MKE

Sorry this is slightly off topic but your not implying there is anything wrong with MKE are you I happen to think this is a pretty nice place to be a baseball fan anyway GO BREWERS!!!!!!   CUBS SUCK!!!

Do they still have the used bookstore in the MKE terminal? It was a great place to kill a couple of hours.

I agree. As bad as things have gotten with the circus in Tempe, and the economy. I still wish for the airline to succeed, and still have a job I enjoy. Hopefully good postive changes are on the horizon for US.

As PB said, be very afraid when the whining stops.

It was the pax and crews walking off EAL that killed that airline, not the unions, Lorenzo or any of the other thousand excuses I've heard. When the pax and crew get very quiet, then you worry.
