He said we were not getting anywhere near that in fares.
Like, as if, he would know anything.

The last mgmt dude I had in ground school, while a really nice guy, entered with spit-shined shoes and Armani suit. When he left, both shoes were scuffed, his jacket was off and he forgot his tie in his haste to leave as three PI captains and a PSA captain stood on tables and tossed chairs at him.

Like I said, nice guy.

I am wondering how much all of those extra seats they crammed into the East Airbii are costing them. If they fill the extra seats with people who are paying below-cost ticket prices, it is actually costing US more to shuttle around extra people than if they had just left well enough alone.

Their membership in the Star Alliance is apparently hanging by a thread....
Come on Bob, what insider info, besides the negative nabobs on this board, do you have to back up that statement?

That is a very interesting observation. If the LF is what they say it is, they are losing more on the volume. And at the same time they ticked off people like me who paid about $0.90 per mile, and don't fly US anymore. They received a P.Poor ROI on adding the additional seats.

They get to Loose MORE money.

Freedom I find it amazing about you in your ways of beating this drum of "saving jobs and saving the company money." Well you could have had the best of both worlds had this last fleet TA not passed. Get off it already, you have no merit in anything you say.

Below which cost? If it's marginal cost, then you are right. But the marginal cost to add a passenger is very, very low, which is why airlines sell low fare tickets even when they are below their average cost. I suspect that all fares sold these days are still above marginal cost, even when they are below average cost. So adding the extra seats may still make sense. Of course, one would need access to the numbers to know for sure.
