BOS-LGA Shuttle returns to mainline, DFW-LAX returns

from what I have heard  from DCA is that the Shuttle Airbus deplanes thru the rear and the pax walk in from below on up the stairs n into the terminal  while the jetway is used to board the plane   Whether or not it is still continuing I don't know as I am not in DCA   but this info is from some of the former DCA folks   IT seems to work well esp if the plane is running late  and they need a quick turn

Robbed they do the same on the 319 with shuttle gates at BOS. Not sure about LGA however.

I remember BOS when we had the 727s they did that all the time...   I wld imagine LGA probably does the same  but I don't know for sure

robbed can tell us if US allows it on the Shuttle at DCA but DL has not done it for years... not sure if it ended on 9/11 but the aircraft types don't lend itself to it.

obviously there are employees required to coral the passengers if it is even allowed - and I'm not sure if it is even permitted anymore.

if US still does it at DCA< then it clearly can be done
The last flight I had when it was on an 88 did have rear deplaning. In between the 722/M88s when Delta used 733/738s I don't believe they had rear deplaning

If DL does go with the 717 for the BOS-LGA shuttle  will they have the capabilities similar to the 727 using the stairs under the tail and the jetway   or does it have the air stairs

717 doesn't have stairs ala DC9/727/MD80.

My understanding is Douglas was planning on offering a MD95-30 and MD95-50 with or without airstairs(along with ER versions) but Boeing just went ahead with the basic MD95-30 (rebranded and some changes as the 717-200)

thanks     our Airbus in DC I believe utilitizes 2 airstair trucks and board and deplane   according to some of the dca folks who came to our city recently   Does DL use Airbus at all on any leg of the shuttle service or is it all RJs
No all RJ now a mix of RJ and 717. The 319 did BOS-LGA for a little bit after the merger but Delta pulled them for the E-jets again pretty quickly.

AFAIK, it's still possible to do a rear airstairs and walk across the ramp, provided that customers aren't wandering about the secure area unescorted by a SIDA holder. It's more of a staffing issue than a security issue.

robbed,
any chance you have a contact who can confirm if US still deplanes via the ramp on the Shuttle at any city?

I work with a bunch of folks who transferred in from DCA  and Ill ask them tomorrow  one guy I work with has long said they still deplane via the airstairs  on the ramp   ill double check

All one has to do is look at the boarding at the express carriers to see you don't have to have a SIDA to do so. You will notices that generally you have an area to walk (could be like the zoo at T2 at JFK, or just some cones put out on the ramp) and you generally notices a few rampers standing close to the line.

Even at the JFK zoo, the last time i was there, they had a ramper in the tunnels every now and then just standing there watching to make sure everyone goes where they are suspose to go.

true. but that is a separate situation than choosing to note use a jetway when you can.

I do believe it is still possible but specific to the 717, it isn't necessary. the plane is not that big. and it is still more of a risk to deplane via airstairs than to use a jetway... and some passengers simply can't do it.

I have seen DL use the stairs on a CR2 at a jetway gate before. (outstation)

not lately but post 9/11

and I agree. No need with the 717. or E75.

Has anyone seen the new BOS gates at LGA - they did a nice job with them - especially the TV display at the end of the concourse giving you the next three shuttle flight departure information

Nicely done!
