Sigh! How both caring and noble. Umm...Given your peaceful proclivities: How's it even possible that you can support the idea of being willing to have people killed over some cattle grazing in a frikkin' desert, and perhaps even a few tortoises? Once again....Folks...You just could NOT make this kind of insanity up!

Uh, pretty sure if I have to pay a fee to visit a National Park such as Yosemite, a rancher should have to pay to have a cow take a sh*t on federal land as well. If he is allowed to graze for free, what do you tell all the law abiding ranchers who are *gasp* law-abiding?

I've no argument against the guy legally owing money, but per "a rancher should have to pay to have a cow take a sh*t on federal land"...Umm...In the case of an otherwise unused desert and "public" land...WHY? All said sh-t would do is add fertilizer and fluid to the land there....?

how about this: BECAUSE IT IS BREAKING THE LAW. Does that work for you? He is using something and not paying taxes for it. It's almost treasonous.

You're right, let's just let everyone pick and choose what laws to abide by, ignoring all the ones that we don't agree with. Like a legal buffet.

I don't particularly like all my tax dollars being used to manufacture and maintain nuclear weapons and missile silos, but oh well.
Err, if he's breaking the law, why not just send out a couple of Serriffs with an an arrest warrant, instead of the "Bureau of Land Management Brigade"?

Pay attention southwind, he has been asked innumerable times, both politely and firmly, over the course of umpteen years, to abide by the letter of the law and just flaunted it in the local authorities faces. I think it finally became to clear to any sensible guy with half a braincell that he is a stubborn, redneck, racist pinhead who was never going to peacefully acquiesce. Be real.

Not always. I'd suggest before ever falling to your knees in full and forever-unquestioning worship of the law, no matter what, that you consider these examples of people "properly" and legally arrested for civil disobedience. I make no comparison with Bundy's case at all, but merely note that all are entitled to their principles and beliefs, for which arresting them is not always the ideal solution to anything:

Sodomy is against the law in many states and countries.
So do you break the law?

Sodomy laws are not enforceable in any US state because of Lawrence vs. Texas. The Supreme Court invalidated them all in 2003 and therefore all sodomy laws are against the law and the constitution.

Gasp! Somebody send for the dogs, armored vehicles and snipers immediately! 😉

Last time I checked, the federal gov still has full authority to collect grazing fees on THEIR OWN LAND.

But yet on the books? Shouldn't people be arrested in droves anyway, since said laws still exist? Sigh! So it's now just a degree of what's enforceable?...And not any real principle of nobly upholding any and all laws, no matter what?

I think it would be plenty pointless for a police officer to arrest someone for a crime that can't be prosecuted in court.

OK. What do you imagine the odds of a local jury convicting Bundy of much of anything would be at present?

It would be a federal jury in either Las Vegas or Reno and I imagine after decades of flaunting the law, there is plenty of evidence to convict.
