Canada's Best Contribution To Aviation

With the coming of the 100th anniversary of flight, I am curious what every one thinks has been Canada's best contribution to aviation. Anything, from aircraft to people (other then Louie 😉) to anything else that has to do with aviation.

The Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame in Alberta is full of them, just great people is my number one pick however if I had to pick a machine it would have to be the bush planes, most notably the Norseman, Beaver, Otter and Twotter.

Bush planes, and the folks who worked with them. The pioneering work of those who flew those Norsemen, Beavers, Otters, and Twotters, inspired everyone. Hats off to those who built, maintained, flew, and HIRED them.

Close second - our helicopter industry has led the planet in ingenuity, vision, and skill, despite being overshadowed by the sheer numbers south of the border.

I think that the assortment of aircraft, both older and modern types that are in use
around the world
Beaver, Otter, Dash 6,7,8 as well as the RJ's, challengers etc.,

Personally I think aircraft like the Beaver and the Twin Otter really shine in Canadian Aviation. I'm sure the Arrow would have as well but that's kind of hard to determine.

Other than that Bombardier has managed to make Canada into the 3rd largest aircraft manufacturing nation in the world. No small task for a population of 30 million.

Saw on the Anniversary edition of the National that McCurdy (sp?) thought that the aileron was our greatest contribution. I didn't know that the Silver Dart was the first to have them. Now that I know, I'd have to agree.
