Charging For ?

The fact that they are even entertaining the notion of charging for soda is a clear example of what Retards we have in upper management. NO TALENT. What else would they like to charge for? If we go cashless will they have us selling little tin airplanes and usairways t-shirts too? Hmmmm Just like Allegiant air? They are going to funkify this outfit to the point of no return. No airline would even WANT to merge with this Junk operation. My goodness. 🙄
 
Maybe in the event of weather diversions they should tell the passengers that due to increased fuel costs every additional mile will be at a charge of $1.00 a mile per passenger and that unless every passenger inserts a valid credit card into the slot in the seat back in front of you in the next 10 minutes the engines will shut off. :wacko:

Uhmm...don't we already pedal for the power to the engines...now we gotta pay and pedal? this is skyway robbery!!!

Didn't I read somewhere that US was running a test of selling what they consider premium products, things like sport drinks and wine by the glass. I have not seen or heard of any indication that US was planning on charging for the standard beverage service.

The pillow and blanket idea has been around for awhile now. I would like the pillows and blankets still available onboard the AC, but I would also like to see them available OFF the aircraft for those people who insist they need them.
 
You know, LSG Sky Chefs kicked this idea of charging for things around back when we first started doing BOB. They were scrambling looking for some revenue since the airlines had drastically cut meal service.

There were two LSG guys on my flight back then that asked my opinion about this. To compensate the FAs for selling, their names would be dropped into a pool for prizes. The dumb idea of compensation notwithstanding, I told them that our customer base would really not appreciate being nickel and dimed.

Five years or so later, Tempe brings a dumb idea back from the dead.
 
Does your accountant give you free soda and snacks when you have him do you taxes? How about when you go to the dentist? I called a plumber to fix my toilet and he didn't even bring me a bag of pretzles. He was here for 2 hours, you think I could get something out of the guy! Geesh all he did was what I paid him for. What a ripoff!

🙄 Uh, as a matter of fact, when I do go to my accountant, I am always offered snacks and drinks. And, when I have clients visit my law firm office, I offer them coffee, snacks, water, sodas, etc. and I don't bill it to their file or ask for their credit card. And, it was the plumber visiting your house, did you offer him anything to drink and then ask him to deduct that from your bill? Your post is silly.
 
Besides first class I have always wondered WHY airlines MUST serve you anything for free. If you take Greyhound you are not given a drink or tokens to use at rest stops included in your bus fare. When you take Amtrak you are not given ANYTHING for free unless you have purchased a private room or are in first class (the quiet car). Considering the expense it costs the airline for fuel, the basic infrastructure involved in getting you and your bag from point A to point B is something the bus and train don't have to deal with. I don't like the idea of selling basic beverages nor do I think it will go over well but I don't honestly see why the airlines are held to different guidelines as other means of transportation. If I'm hungry on Amtrak you go to the snack car and pay for everything including the beloved pretzel. A can of soda if I remember correctly is $1.25. Why is flying on an airplane treated any different?
 
I say on domestic a/c, two vending machines should be put in the coach galley. One offering food items, the other sodas. On each end would be trash carts and above the coffee makers. Machines would take cash or debit/credit cards. An emergency open key would be placed in the a hidden place in case the machines malfunction. Get the Jetblue/Frontier like IFE on the a/c and I will promise you the customers would be happy. Most of the galley is wasted space anyway with caterers wno don't know where anything goes in the first place. Surely the technology for that on an a/c is somewhere out there. This would give the customer more variety and eliminate money accountability and stealing.

My CPA’s assistant always offers be a beverage when I visit, and there’s a vase of candy on the receptionists desk. Never saw that as a line item on the invoices. But then if you have your taxes done at the H&R Block kiosk at Sears I can see why that might seem strange to you.

When my septic system froze up a couple of winters ago the guys that came out didn’t offer me anything to eat, but they did give me a bunch of nice pens.

I'll tell you why, because its always been part of the cost of your ticket. If you want to pay 3 dollars less and pay for every little extra cost go fly airtran, pay for luggage, pay for drinks, pay for snacks now you paid more than if you just flew US to begin with. Same as Allegiant.

If this is true, then why is it that we sometimes serve full meals and drinks and sometimes nothing at all. How about on flights where we can't serve because of turbulence--can passengers get a little refund? What if they asked for that second bag of pretzels--should we say that their ticket price only paid for exactly one?
 
I just shrug my shoulders and shake my head.....what's next? Charging for meals or for hanging coats in F? OH right..no more closets.....

It use to be based on what the competition was doing. If xyz served a full hot meal on certain routes then other carriers did the same to be competitive.

Now you have one group of airlines running business as usual serving hot meals and giving out hot towels and another group trying to find a balance between included amenities that people actually want and what will they pay for. I think there is a third airline group now that charges for everything and only a seat is included in your ticket price – out of Columbus I think? Anyway…..

This creates a consumer group who has no idea what to expect when they fly unless they do their homework. Not doing their homework on their coach class seat could end them up on a flight where only BOB meals are offered when they expected to receive a hot meal they thought was included in their ticket price or worse in FC and not receive anything resembling what they thought they were paying for.

The problem with US is that they have no idea what they are doing, what direction they want to head, the ability to price the product for what it is, no plan, no appreciation for their employees, and not a clue about their customer base. All they are able to see is the almighty $$$$$$ and are falling all over themselves to get it and making US look more like a bunch of clowns then an airline, ticking off their employees, and chasing away their best customers for a quick buck.
