Have any of you looked at our new shift bid yet ? The idiots in Tempe have sure f'd this one up. They have NO idea how to make a schedule. I hope no one plans to make it work.

At my station when we had LESS agents we had BETTER work skeds..
Better days off..

Our Full timers USED to work 0600-1430/0530-1400--
Now?

12:30-9pm
9:00-530PM

Part timers still open and close..

The f/t sked BITES big time!

Doesnt local management make the bid?

Our small station my station manager claimed Tempe proposed a work sked, he (yea right) followed it 1x and had to tweek it..

Makes me wonder if this was HIS excuse?

I was talking to some of the guys here in Charlotte, they were not happy because there sunday-monday days off have disappeared....go figure....They were not happy, now they will have to work weekends....

what is the purpose of Tempe creating a work schedule?

So then.no station manager is needed..right?

If they are involved in OUR work skeds, on keep a shift manager start CUTTING the station managers..

if i am not mistaken I believe it should be the stations, not tempe making up the work shift bid. I do believe that camille is the one who has to approve of the hrs/slots or something along the lines. I do not know 100% sure but believe that is the way it works. In my station our shift managers make the bid

I have heard that Management has either bought or developed a computer program to design the work schedules based on traffic flow. Yea sounds good in theory but in practice it's a different story.

The public has a tenacity to say "computer" as if that will provide the best and fastest solution to our problems. One time it was an idyllic concept as in the lyrics go, "A just machine to make big decisions, programmed by fellows with compassion and vision" to our present circumstances being, "It too complex for me to understand." Perhaps we realized our "just machine" needed worthy programmers and people with the intellectual abilities to frame the questions to be mathematically solved. And let's not even get into the issues of the politics of scheduling (or compassion and vision) as we have seen so far with some posts, for example, those who object to the start times for full-time people.

Scheduling thousand of people with hundreds of flights with various arrival and departure times, nearly unlimited numbers of shift time possibilities, in various work locations within the constraints of a budget, CBA, and political considerations, is not for those managers who lack a solid background in optimization theory. Based upon the managers I have seen, I doubt any of them would know where to begin, and the results of the past have been far too many people during some times and not nearly enough during other times. These are expensive mistakes costing millions of dollars every year.

I guess my view is that the proof is in the puddin'. So let's see how some of "Quants" tackle the problem, but based upon some of the heuristic flow charts I have seen them use in the past, I have little hope for something effective, unless Corporate just hired some new people to run the operation.

So Submits Jester.

"Traffic Flow" in CLT is back to back... push em n' park em!
I don't see a lot of ebb and flow down here... just solid flights!

I am sure TEMPE is using STAFF PLAN. The bean counters that sit in the back office and have never worked the line. Plug in all these numbers as to flght flow and out comes a SCEDULE. They like to say it is very efficient but it usually puts the screws to decent shifts and days off. FYI I head thru the grapevine that ATS in STL did over $100,000.00 damage to the almost new jetway in STL. The previous station manager ( AKA _ UNT FACE ) purchased it new when US Airways was pinching pennies and paid over $400,000.00 for it it came with all the whistles and bells and it was down about 50% of the time. The PC Air unit was not very reliable. When you needed heat in the winter it was broke and when you needed AC in the summer it was broke. A local electrical company was there working on it MOST of the time.

One would think that they would wait for the furlough placements to come out before making a new shift bid!

Why would they do that ????

The Company Loves to Screw You any chance they get !

As far as the Bid, there is a Staffing Software in place that if followed, could be your shift bid. Most stations need to adjust this due to local airport issues.

This Staff Plan must be what they used here because it sure put the screws to things & what you describe is what this piece of crap bid is.

One of the mgrs who usually does the bid here told us this one was being done by Tempe & we wouldn't like it.
