Charlotte Fleet Service shift bid

Has anything been resolved concerning the CLT bid? How are other stations bids being handled with the current furloughs taking place?

How much time has to elapse between a parttime shift ending and the next parttime shift beginning? It seems to be different depending on what station you are working in. Parttimers are being denied the opportunity to go fulltime by the company backing parttime shifts together, which in reality should be a fulltime shift.

Its in your contract, try reading it.

Hours of service, unless there is an LOA on it.

For your information mr busy body, the time differential is not stated in the contract. If you were in fleet and had a contract you'd know that!

Rogue, I think you've answered your own question. If it's not in the CBA, then there is no minimum separation between PT shifts...

At NW, we had 60 minutes minimum between them...

That is why I'm trying to find out what time separations other cities are using. The contract says no back to back parttime shifts are allowed. What I would like to know is what constitutes back to back?

It usually depends on station management what constitutes back to back. My last 2 stations it was 30 minutes. PHX was 60 minutes then 30 minutes. It changed with the wind. Hey... I really don't know what constitutes back to back... but I do know what constitutes Back in Black!

That's what I'm trying to say. If there's no specific minimum, it doesn't matter what another station may or may not be observing; it's up to local mgmt. in your city. I don't agree with it, but you and I both know that any grey area will be exploited by a company... Another reason why clear concise language is an imperative...

My question is; how does a CBA have language stating "no back to back PT shifts," but no time frame along with it???

Gee I thought you said it wasnt in your CBA?

There is NOTHING mentioned in the CBA regarding time between shifts for PT and there is NO LOA regarding the matter.

The CBA States:

The Company will not regularly schedule part-time employees within the same duty assginment back-to-back where the work requirement can be covered by a SINGLE FULL TIME employee.

SO, how many total hours are we talking about for the PT agents ?
And can it be covered by ONE Full Time Employee ? Remember that the FSA CBA DOES allow for a Four Day work week !

This topic was discussed several months ago, and used as an example of barrels of gray paint which found their way into our CBA. The CBA relies too much on Management "good will" and that's often times gets down to a station manager's working relationship with employees. Of course, now that the Tempe boys are handling the scheduling, they do not need to deal with snippy rampers who did not get their 0800-1630 shift they had for the last decade or the issue of back-to-back part-time shifts (for which part-timers greatly appreciate). In fact, there is little to prevent the Company from having a 15 minute overlap with a couple of part-time shifts citing "operational need" in order to prevent the creation of a full-time shift either.

My point being that this is a poorly crafted CBA which does not address many issues or leaves them to be so ambiguous as Management will take it upon themselves as to what a section of the CBA means. If the New Direction team was serious about fixing the CBA, a good start would be removing much of the language vagueness and subjectivity and removing the contractual holes which allow Management to do as they please.

Well now Mr. Jester…

We are once again in agreement on something… today’s word is ambiguity! Let’s all say it together… [am-bi-gyoo-i-tee]!

Our past Union leadership was quite comfortable at leaving huge swaths of our agreement cloaked in just such vagueness. That is why the ND folks have been so adamant about getting language clarifications in all aspects of the agreement.

There is a lot of work to be done regarding the P/T language. First, and foremost, we need to lower the ratio system wide, and then add the utilization language concerning shifts.

So proclaims…

This may be just a Rumor & not worth much, but it's going around that there is going to be a new bid to be eff. in April since this thing is not working. I was told this morning that the part timers are now pretty much full time as they get all the shift extensions they desire.
