The CEO and the senior executives get paid according to what is best for the shareholders, while the employees get paid based on what management considers best for the company, whether per stockholders, customers, or a mixture of the two. There is a fundemental conflict between the two at most companies as proven by the huge differential in executive pay vs. worker pay.
