CNN is running a story this morning saying that US Airways will most likely Liquidate. And that if our lga and dca gates go to LCC's it will be the end of all legecy's. Says it will change flight patterns across the country. Small markets will lose all service. CNN says there's no stopping it....

I don't know what to think CNN and CBS tend to make up stories.... ?

Maybe they are just adding to the speculation started by our own Management team. When the people at the top start to blab this type of info to the press, they will take the ball and run with it. In this case, there is nobody to blame except for the Boy's at the top. I'm sure this will do wonders for future bookings! At this point the new concessions should just about cover the damage done by the Big Mouths who like to intimidate the employees thru the Press.

I saw the story, your taking this way out of context. You forgot the most importnat words, "if"...... another story taking way out of context. CNN did not say we would most likely liq!

fliboy your very right . i saw it as well. "if usairways were to liquidate' was said. some people just like to stir the pot. not cool in times like these.

It's a Sunday morning give DeltaWatch a break. Maybe he had a rough night at the pub and wasn't awake for the whole story.

If any airline will to vanish U is the best guess. With the latest round of cuts and to a lot of the U employees it already has liquidated since employees will not stay even if it does survive. I talk to "many" employees who either left or are actively looking to leave. This airline is no longer considered a long term proposition where people are willing to hang their hat. So, it this sense CNN is accurate.

I agree. It speculation...what many do on this board all day long..

I abeleive CAV is correct, too. Many employees are actively applying and looking for work now.

Sorry, but you must have missed it .... one of their experts said US Airways will likely liq. And another said that if it does it will speed up the fall of all legacy's.. .... CNN will repeat it several times IM sure.... watch it again.

They're right about one thing . . . . when the LCC weed takes over the lawn, service to small and medium cities will evaporate or be horribly expensive serviced by very high cost commuter company RJs. And the LCCs now flown by happy automotons will gradually grow less content with sub-bus driver wages in NYC. Even SW will shortly be having some serious financial problems. Look on the bright side . . . if U survives (highly doubtful) you'll be in the lead in the race to the bottom, after a couple more rounds of givebacks. Why not save the dues money and just decert the unions altogether?

Their wet dream come true and-------- exactly what management has in mind....hmmmm

I think U will become part of that list of "former companies" in that article I posted, because of above statement, just my opinion of course.

...didn't the pilot's union signal a liquidation first through a report compiled by their consultants? Just curious. I think it is fair to say that US has had a string of issues that failed to give them the advantage they need. Mostly, I would say mgmt (80/20). Line employees never seemd to get over the personality differences of mergers past. Mgmt did little to foster a cohesive atmosphere. The worst mistake/move was the PSA merger. In the end, they didn't accurately forcast the challenge of competing with WN on the west coast. Poor foresight, maybe...more likely a bad crystal ball.

PIT should never have been what it was...the size of the market never justified a hub of that size.

US should have been a leader in the RJ world. PIT could have beeh the strongest Ohio valley hub of the three (CLE/CVG/PIT). Other routes could have benefited as well in PHL & CLT.

As a result of these issues...CNN and their analysts are probably correct in that US will most likely be forced to liquidate. On the demise of Legacy carriers...I think they are wrong. There is some validity to the macho chant here on these boards that WN, B6, & FL don't fly to small towns and int'l destinations. I think more likely we'll see a consolidation of the remaining legacy carriers...

seeing that we won the AIRBUS, work do you think the company will stand for that after all the fighting they did to take it a way?
This game is in the end of the 4th qt and they have something up their ... and I know that they will not stand to keep the mechs to do the work, will they shut it down saying that its going to cost too much to gear up ? stand byuntill U makes the news again . they story was ok but we got to waite for the real ending 😛h34r:

They will get the savings elsewhere, most likely from the pilots who are too scared to say no. 295 million - just went to 395 million or more in the mind of management. They know they will give anything if asked whereas the mechanics will shut the place down. The scared and weak are always the best target.

Management will ask the bankruptcy court to allow them to outsource the maintenance.

Yea, You're right, management will "ask" for a lot of things.. So What ?...The Airbus Arbitration Ruling {in the IAM's favor} will now serve as a starting point for {good faith ? negotiations , IF this is possible with this management team}..No longer will the company be able to question who has the right to maintain the Airbus 319/320/321. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE A & P MECHANICS OF USAIRWAYS.
