Could any CO FA's shed some light positive or negative on the representation you have with IAM as your union?

While I'm not a CO f/a, I have been "represented" by the IAM. 1.They gave up our "iron clad" SCOPE protection without a vote of the membership. This is possible because of the IAMs C&B. 2. You have no autoonomy. You are forced to vote for representatives of other airlines and they have the ability to vote for your leaders. White ballots rule the vote. 3. The Grand Poopaw can over-ride a membership vote IF it is deemed in the "best interest" of the whole. 4. It is simply about the dues.. 5.It is simply about the dues. 6. Very little of the dues money actually stays with the local. 7. It is simply about the dues.

I am a F/A and you forgot to mention one thing. ITS ALL ABOUT THE DUES!!!! When the IAM tried to give us a TA THIS past spring when LK "wanted"(not needed) 500 million in givebacks from all the workgroups, the mighty IAM couldnt agree with CAL fast enough. They (IAM) tried to make minced-meat out of our swiss cheese of a contract, but somehow managed to give themselves a raise and not touch our hourly pay, which coincidentally is tied to our dues payment. Thankfully, the membership rejected this pathetic attemt byy the union, and now it is in mediation. It is a sad state of affairs when the F/A's are voting more against the union than they are against the company. For more info, go to www.airlinecrew.net to see how much dissatisfaction there is with the IAM at CAL.

Continental Airlines Announces That No Flight Attendant Agreement Reached
Friday November 18, 11:41 am ET
HOUSTON, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL - News) today issued the following bulletin to update employees on the status of negotiations with its flight attendants' union, the International Association of Machinists (IAM):

Talks between Continental Airlines and the IAM adjourned yesterday in Washington, D.C., with no flight attendant agreement being reached. The chairman of the National Mediation Board (NMB) joined the talks on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The issues have been narrowed to a few remaining items.

A final bargaining session has been scheduled for Dec. 7 and 8 in the offices of the NMB in Washington, D.C. If no agreement is reached on those dates, the NMB has stated that it will consider releasing the parties from mediation into a 30-day cooling off period. At the end of that period, the company would be able to implement needed wage and benefit reductions, and the flight attendants would be able to strike.
