In 1945 Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier; I'm sure there were people then who thought it would never happen. This was imagined to be the same...

It is just a matter of time. Perhaps one day everyone will be looked at as equal. This brings us one step closer to that goal.

Being a last round pick (249th of 256) isn't something I'd celebrate too loudly. People are already speculating on whether or not there'd been some outside pressure during the last round, or that perhaps the Rams were given some incentive for picking him.

Had he gone undrafted, the NFL would have certainly had some 'splaining to do.

I'm sure the first time he gets taken out in a game by another team, or if he gets put on waivers, nobody will be talking about equality.

Sam was ranked as an average player before the Senior Bowl, and then he started to drop... he's a good defensive end, but didn't do so well as a linebacker. If he can't demonstrate the flexibility to play multiple positions, he'll be gone.

I'm sure something similar was said when Jackie Robinson first played in the white leagues. Hopefully this will encourage the no-doubt numerous closeted-gay athletes not to be secretive about it anymore, and before you know it, it'll be no big thing. Can't we all agree that is something all of us would like?
