Even the most primitive societies have historically (and very reasonably) tended towards doing their best to protect their young ladies, but hey!...Not US(A) anymore! I honestly do, but unlike your sort, realize that his sexual orientation won't help him at all on the football field, and I'd wait, were I you, for a more proven hero to rise to even the NFL ranks...Just sayin'. Who knows? He may rise to greatness...but the odds seem a bit skewed for that. It seems more the case that he's essentially been "adopted" for press value, but time will tell.
Half-azzed comparisons to the likes of Sally Ride and Jackie Robinson are patently ridiculous here:

Serious cheer-leading might best be withheld until "After hitting a double and later scoring," Again; I wish him the best, and I've no personal concern for who/what gender anyone finds love in, but being lowest "dog" in the draft affords some reasonable doubts....

Addendum: That young man now finds himself, whether he likes it or not, as the representative of the gay society on the football field. Dr. Ride and Mr. Robinson were certainly up to their respective tasks. Only time will tell if this young fellow is.

He'll need more than luck to succeed.
